Yeah, I mean, I'm critical of any video nowadays that is trying to elicit an emotional response, especially when it's asking for subs at the end. It's weird that all the people seem to end up with the dog they want. And shelters are overflowing, where are the rooms full of people wanting to adopt?

When I say that locking mothers in the suburbs with small children breaks them? This is what I mean.
It’s why we need universal daycare, paid parental leave for a full year, with gradual return to work schedules.
Babies do best in groups of peers (siblings are not peers). And adults NEED peers!

I am so tired of people on the left acting like having/raising children (and paying for the associated costs) is a kind of decadence. Stop treating parenting like a weirdly expensive and unnecessary hobby.

People are popping off over the cost of daycare listed here. I think if you don’t have kids or haven't had school kids in decades, you have no idea how much this stuff costs. In 2019, the last time I paid for daycare, the company charged $1100/month for infants and $800 for kindergarten and older.

I am super-pro-public transit, and use it way more than the average American, but I live near a light rail station with very, very stable and predictable scheduling, and even then I would not use it for many things I use a car for because the cost of transit is time.
i wonder how much of Americans' views on driving vs. transit would change if they had to pay for gas/insurance/etc every time they turned on the engine

One century ago, standard, mid-range, catalog shoes went for 2025 $30-50 per pair, were repairable (glued soles hadn’t become common yet), were made of leather, would last for several years and could be Ship of Theseus’ed on soles, fasteners and heels.
They were better shoes for less.

Not only is it going to be a hunger crisis, it's going to be a farm crisis. All those gallons of milk bought from dairy farmers, all the produce, all the on sale ground beef and packs of chicken that are paid for by SNAP are subsidies to farmers who don't qualify for commodities subsidies.
