"U.S. may subsidize an effort by oil companies to rebuild the country's energy infrastructure — a project he said could take less than 18 months."

Trump is looking to spend our tax dollars to boost up big oil's "infrastructure" in Venezuela.

I couldn't get past the graf where the Times exonerates itself for this woman's death.

She "struggled to feel comfortable in her body and in the world ... The reasons for suicide are complex... multiple factors — including mental disorders, brain chemistry and destabilizing life events"
A devastating story about the life and death of Lia Smith, a transgender woman and college student targeted by conservatives online because she briefly participated on the school's diving team. Lia was found dead by suicide last fall at the age of 21.

DOJ now tells a federal judge that it has reviewed and released 0.83% of the Epstein files—that's right, less than 1%—and even those have been improperly redacted so heavily as to make most of them senseless.
JUST IN: DOJ says it has finished reviewing *less than 1%* of the Epstein Files for potential release.

Only 12,285 documents have been released while more than 2 million remain under review.

January 6 was the beginning of the end of everything, not just because of what happened that day but largely because of everything that ~didn’t happen~ after. There is no “unity” without political accountability. January 6 succeeded because our systems failed and we are here.
"To move forward from here without confronting the long-deflating bubble of 'both-sides' journalism, which is profitable for the D.C. book party circuit but ill-suited to maintaining both good government and a public trust in the media, is to ensure that illiberalism will continue to flourish."
The Capitol Riot Killed “Both Sides” Journalism
Trump’s acquittal notwithstanding, these violent events have forever changed the way Beltway reporters should do their jobs.

Grok didn't learn this on its own. It was allowed to learn it. Other AIs do not do this. If Grok is made in Musk's image, we have to ask what kind of man Musk is? The answer: a man who at the very least sees nothing wrong with child porn.

"did you try to bribe the president of the united states by giving him your nobel peace prize so he will declare that you are in charge of venezuela after abducting its leader by military force" is just a thing that someone can be asked in an interview now and we all have to deal with that
Hannity: Did you at any point offered to give him the Nobel peace prize?

Machado: It hasn’t happened yet. We want to give it to him. Share it with him.

Imagine going to church and the pastor spends 2 hours talking about how an elderly child rapist with bad makeup, 6 casino bankruptcies, and 39 felonies is god’s chosen vessel and that god wants that same old pedophile to murder Venezuelan people for oil industry profits. These people are deeply sick

Without their valiant efforts at sowing division and discourse people might be able to talk to each other and conclude both reasons suxk and the entire right wing movement should be thrown out on their ass
Why are people apparently arguing about whether Trump’s illegal invasion and bigger warmongering threats are an evil all on their own that must be fought, or an attempted distraction from Epstein and Trump’s huge grocery and health care cost increases. Doesn’t seem like a leap to conclude it’s both.

City leadership.
For the last several years, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu was widely seen as the standard bearer for US urbanist reforms.

It’s now pretty clear that person is Mamdani.
Mayor Mamdani said over the weekend that he wants the Department of Transportation to add daylighting before someone has been killed rather than wait to ban parking at intersections after a completely avoidable tragedy. nyc.streetsblog.org/2026/01/05/m...

Nope.
