It takes ten of those buckets to fill the trough for the livestock

Did you know freeze proof Iowa taps can freeze? Because they can and now I get to haul water from the house one five gallon bucket at a time by myself

Gloves by Ridgecut, chore knife by Smith & Wesson. Sheer cussedness and willpower the product of 200 years of poor white trash breeding.

I am alive primarily because Duluth makes fleece lined firehose work pants and burly flannel shirts and Outback Trading Co and Carhartt make great coats and ariat makes great boots

When you phrase it like that you sound like you're challenging them to get you hit by a train!

To give you an idea of scale here, with our usual highs in the 40s and lows around freezing with no snow, I feed 150lbs of hay in the evening and the animals forage the rest of the day.

Today I expect to feed 500lbs of hay across 3 meals and an additional 100-200lbs of grain/pelleted grass feed.
February 19, 2026 at 3:50 PM
Ok. I have fallen back on my backup boots while my primary boots dry out. I'm gonna suit up and go put out the first round of hay.

Look I realize it's somewhat audacious of me to offer criticism to one of the sages but I feel you may need to up your standards

So if you're one of those many many people who believes (however erroneously) that mary shelley invented science fiction with this story, you owe your thanks to an Indonesian volcano none of them knew existed

Fun fact: The eruption of Mount Tambora also led to weather conditions across Europe that forced a group of young artists who were hanging out together to stay indoors one summer and into starting a writing contest and anyway, that's how Mary Shelley ended up writing Frankenstein
Likewise the paintings of JMW Turner are influenced by the eruption of mount Tambora and the resulting Year without a Summer

Buy the largest star of David necklace possible, preferably with rhinestones, and wear it prominently, because then if I catch a beat down at least it wasn't because I'm trans

Wait you dated someone who got you hit by a car???

Fuck it let's do it. Deschedule testosterone while we're at it.
FDA Chief Makary just said that most drugs should be sold over the counter and not require a prescription, unless it’s “unsafe, you need laboratory tests to monitor…or if it could be used for some nefarious purpose or it's addictive”.

Bacteria celebrate as antibiotic resistance enters the chat.
FDA chief Marty Makary says 'everything should be over the counter' unless drug is unsafe or addictive
Makary said the FDA is looking at prescription drugs like nausea medications and vaginal estrogen, and hopes to make changes this year.

I think what we can all learn from this is... Dont be afraid to arrest perverts ... i don't care who your pappy was!
Never in a million years did I ever fathom when I resurrected the Epstein story in 2018 that it would lead to first arrest of a British Royal in four centuries. Not since King Charles I was arrested in 1647.

The roads are "snow tires, chains, and 4WD" bad. They were ice and slush yesterday which means they've refrozen. Donner Pass was the only one open and I'm betting CHP Truckee either closes it or says "it isn't closed but we wish it was, stay the fuck home"

Like I cannot stress enough how much rural California is fucked up. It's like suburban white Nazi attitudes from the south in a rural area and it freaks me out.
February 19, 2026 at 2:55 PM
Shit I could have been dead the past week and none of these Nazi ass old people would have noticed or cared
February 19, 2026 at 2:54 PM
Like none of my neighbors in North Carolina cared when I transitioned right in front of em but here in California I'm terrified these Nazi ass white people will find out I'm trans. I cannot be my whole self here like I could back home.
February 19, 2026 at 2:52 PM
Like what the motherfuckers who like to talk shit about the south and rural areas don't understand is that there is still a rural south that is working class, multi-racial, and gerrymandered and vote suppressed and trying to organize but so, so tired.
February 19, 2026 at 2:46 PM
Back home I always had Black and Latino neighbors and we were all working class together and shared food and labor. Here it's just a bunch of elderly ass white people putting up neighborhood watch signs.

I never should have left NC. California is a conservative hellhole of hardcore individualists. In the southeast I had a support network of people who cared about me and would be helping in this kind of situation. I have nobody for reliable support here, I'm just on my own whatever comes.

Over the course of the day that is, not just for breakfast
February 19, 2026 at 2:34 PM
Don't know yet, sun isn't up and I'm about to have tea then go serve breakfast and get a head count. Expecting to feed 500lbs of hay plus another 100lbs of concentrates.
February 19, 2026 at 2:34 PM
Snow, day.... Whatever. It's snowing again. High today of 34. Forecast revised tonight's overnight low to 7. Will be feeding grain at bedtime along with hay. Lows tomorrow and Saturday will also be brutal.
