But also. Even if the whole thing was just "Atari fucking whupped chatGPT's ass at chess" and no deeper insight, that alone would be worthy of further disengaging from LLMs, yes. Because it's fucking funny. I don't know what else to tell you man.

I'm going with dishwasher, which I didn't have growing up so it feels like luxury, and stick blender, which means I haven't purchased salad dressing since the Obama administration.

Honorable mention to the Ninja flip toaster/fryer, which Mr Beet loves and uses every day.
Everybody has two kitchen appliances that will change their life. The problem is, they're different for everybody.
This place needs some Innocuous Discourse pronto. Quote this with a take that’s not political or aggressive

This has new relevance with the dissolution of the CPB. Media is another area where there is no one coming to save us besides ourselves, and looking at how the tiny grassroots side of things does it is worth a look

Shout out to the young person demonstrating in the local military base town, alone, with a cardboard sign reading "Hands Off Venezuela."

I was only passing through & could offer just a honk & a thumbs up in solidarity, but I think you are so brave and I'm proud of you.

"I don’t want us to forget that the predictive algorithms being marketed as “intelligence” were built out of an internet riven with white supremacy, sexism, and colonialism, and fueled by capitalism."
This summer, I took myself to the beach for two days & wrote a letter to my fellow educators about “AI.”

My mom asked to read it; I told her, “Not yet. Let me get another draft done.”

Welp.

I should have let her read the first draft because she’s not here to read this one.
“Human Beings! Human Beings!” An Open Letter to Educators on the Dangers of AI
A high school teacher and Rethinking Schools editor denounces AI as a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Okay, we’re getting close to the new year here, so one last time this year:

Close your eyes for a quick moment and think about someone who brought you joy this year.

Now tell them.

Repost this and tell them if you want so more people do it, but you don’t have to.

Tell them!

"We’re still capable of kindness, solidarity, and the occasional miracle disguised as basic decency.

That’s not nothing."
This is not the inspirational, Instagram-quote version of hope.

This is the stubborn, dented, slightly sarcastic hope that survives out of pure spite. The kind that says, “Yes, everything is on fire, but I’m still not letting the worst people win everything.”
