This year I planted a little 3 sisters garden- an Indigenous practice where you plant corn, beans, & squash in ecological harmony- and did my best. Watered, fertilized, did my homework on backyard food gardening, battled slugs and squirrels.

Behold, the harvest:

I hope you get to meet one, too!

They're an odd choice of pet, as they sleep when we're awake & are solitary by nature; really, they neither want nor need our company. But winning the comfortable companionship of such a grumpy lil loner felt big and wonderful, and we had a lot of fun together.

Your hedgehog is perfect. Friendly requesting of pics (no worries if not!)?

One of my besties does pet portraits ( @kallimao.bsky.social ) & I have several of her likenesses of my hedgie, Otis; like the time she worked him into prow of a tiny clipper ship drawn on an envelope

Mr Beet and I have taken up crafting to help get through The Horrors. Being away from socials keeps my mental health from getting shredded. Currently, our table is littered with hummingbirds, koi, roses, and foxes, all made of paper. And here's some veggies I drew.

Persist, beloveds.

This little one hit my window, and it rang their bell pretty hard. Living amongst The Horrors has made me fragile; just moving them to recover safely made me want to cry.

They're sitting up and looking around now, which is a good sign. Godspeed, little golden-crowned comrade.

Hahaha! Someday, my friend!

The Native ones are usually little bc of all the shade here (I'm in WA), but we got enough to make a sauce!

I'm at an Indigenous-owned coffee shop having what I can only describe as a decolonized Arnold Palmer: huckleberry, lemonade & mint tea. Delicious! It's called "1776 Degrees of Separation" 😆

"Did you know there's only one type of fern?"
"Really, only one?"
"Uh huh. And they're eatable if you pick the right leaves."

Thanks kid, but I'm going to double check any wildcrafting advice from a four year old in a unicorn bike helmet 🌱

Thanks! I love them. Some of the blossoms are almost half and half pink/purple, with blue dot centers.

My hydrangea blossoms started off pink, but after a few years, because of the soil they is slowly turning blue. Right now they're purplish.
