The Highline ⬇️ feed lets you catch up on the highlights from oldest (up to 24 hours back) to newest (to 30 minutes ago), and it remembers your position based on how far you've scrolled. Adjustable filtering settings at feeds.mdruker.app.

Use it in tandem with the Following feed. 5/7

A type of practice that I find interesting historically is the rigorously untrue. Astrology, for instance, was often a very tightly defined practice with a seriously requirement of learning: it just wasn’t actually real.

this is the simple answer to people who keep saying NATO expansion matters. Sure, it matters because it presented an obstacle to Russian imperial ambitions. Putin didn't invade because he hated NATO expansion, he hated NATO expansion because he wanted to invade

I do feel sorry for the kids. They’ll seemingly never know amazing things.

When dialup internet went mainstream, it was amazing. When we got broadband, it was amazing. When we got to take that mobile with 3G, it was amazing. MP3 players? Amazing! GPS? Amazing!

Now it’s just AI and enshitification.

This is the key thing about nice small towns: it’s not the density, it’s the compactness
Increasingly convinced that we need to be doing more policy design not around density but around _compactness_ — land uses clustered together in a contiguous way. Which in turn makes it structurally possible to get between more places without a car

I think a current problem with custom feeds is they only have one cursor. To do this structurally I think custom feeds need to have two cursors for extending the shown content in both timeline directions
another piece, there's a "Load new posts" at the top that preserves scroll position and lets you scroll upwards manually

Correct take on Christmas
It’s a syncretic celebration rooted in the timing of the equinox with a secular mascot, dominated by commercialism and commodity fetishism. At this point the “reason for the season” Christian freaks and the atheist complainers are equally deluded.
