American cities, for all their flaws, present an actually existing, multicultural alternative to MAGA's small, hateful and indeed adolescent worldview. And that is why Trump is going to war with them. www.salon.com/2025/10/02/t...
Trump's war on cities is part of his ugly vision for America
The U.S. president is declaring war on cities because they represent a positive, multicultural alternative to MAGA.

I know Europeans can be condescending towards America, and the continent has its own problems, but when your country has made Donald Trump its head of state for a second time you gotta take the “L” and eat shit for a while.

Graham Platner says he's no John Fetterman. But he gets the concerns.
The Democratic Senate candidate said he understands why some may compare him to the Pennsylvania senator, but he told NBC News he's different — and wants to earn voters' trust.

We’re in this absurd space where the president has already pardoned every person who ransacked the Capitol as he watched on TV but only he is allowed to admit “that’s what I wanted.”
🇬🇧 The BBC is expected to apologise for editing a speech that suggested Donald Trump had directly instigated an attack on the US Capitol, resulting in the dramatic resignations of the broadcaster's top brass.

“Democrats have no power.”

“Democrats shut down the government.”

Observing some tensions.
November 10, 2025 at 8:49 AM
The difference between this and prior shutdowns is that there’s a fascist government.
The PR was fine. The polling was good. The ask was targeted. And it still didn't matter. You can't win real concessions so the question is whether the base likes a long fight with little to show for it or if it just angers them more because you caved in the end.
Shutting down is the easy part, starting up on your terms very hard. Maybe a lost shutdown fight would bring catharsis, but last time (DACA in 2018) it angered base & public because it was fruitless. Ask would need to be something Rep lawmakers want, not stop all Trump is doing

One predictable downside of making it "no this is only about ACA, our only demand" is that does get harder to defend as time goes on and the shutdown pain stacks up. The line for giving up on that, taking its loss as the lesser evil, is much lower than "we're not funding this fascist police state."

40 men Trump sent to CECOT tell the NYT they were beaten, tortured, and sexually assaulted. The details are worse than you can imagine.

We can’t let them get away with this. Miller and the other architects of this sadism need to go to prison.

“The notion on the kinetic strikes, without actually interdicting and demonstrating to the American public that these are carrying drugs and they’re full of bad guys, I think, is a huge mistake and undermines the confidence in the administration’s actions,” Warner said.

Scholars (and students) have to trust that their institutions will not abandon them out of political expediency. Many of the country's elite institutions have shown that they will — even as they “affirm the importance of and their support for academic freedom.”
Breaking News: Cornell University reached an agreement with the Trump administration that would restore hundreds of millions in funding to the university. It's expected to pay a $30 million fine to the government and to invest $30 million in agriculture and farming programs.

Jason Stanley is a weird guy, but a lot of people are dunking on him with variations on how they’re not scared of these clowns in Washington — and, well, with kids getting zip-tied in military-style, nighttime raids on their home, that seems privileged too.
Jason Stanley isn’t afraid to use the F-word when talking about President Donald Trump.

The author of How Fascism Works and Erasing History: How Fascists Rewrite the Past to Control the Future is clear: He believes the US is currently under an authoritarian regime led by a fascist leader.
I study fascism. I’ve already fled America.
On this week’s “More To The Story,” former Yale philosophy professor Jason Stanley explains his recent move to Canada and calls the Trump administration’s takeover of the US government a “coup.”

The AP tracked down details of some of the people killed in President Trump's military strikes on drug smugglers he describes as narco-terrorists.

They were, with one exception, not high-level criminals. One was a fisherman. One was a bus driver; another a taxi driver.

The right did this after Biden won — "The Regime is going to execute me because I love America." — and then we got Merrick Garland: www.peoplefor.org/rightwingwat...

Inspiring RW terror may be one angle, with Bannon; but at some point, Dems will have to show the threat of accountability is real.
I'd be careful of too much Schadenfreude over a Bannon narrative that would encourage many among the MAGA Trump hard core towards pursuing more violently radical action before they run out of time
Steve Bannon: If we lose the midterms and we lose 2028, some in this room are going to prison, myself included.

Allow yourself to believe in hell today, as a treat.
I helped make a film, out this week, called “Rovina’s Choice,” about the deaths this man without conscience or accountability has caused — already 600,000, ⅔ of them children.

I would prefer that we not preface our criticism of murder with “I’m sympathetic.” You can nix that bit of throat-clearing and just say it’s wrong to kill civilians without charge or trial.
Sen. Slotkin: “The president and Secretary Hegseth are refusing to tell the American people who we are fighting…I think it's safe to say that the American people deserve to know who we are at war with, especially if people are being killed in our name.”
