In his first Christmas Day address, Pope Leo XIV highlighted conditions in Gaza, saying its inhabitants “have nothing left and have lost everything,” as he called for peace talks to end conflicts around the world, including those in Africa and Ukraine.

The pope called for peace, especially for the victims of “forgotten” wars, naming several conflicts in Africa.

Just had a guy on reddit tell me "you don't need accuracy in your field, it's just life that things are inaccurate sometimes" lol

He does not even know what I do! But still felt confident in asserting that anyway, which really captures the vibe of these dudes (it's always dudes)
You absolutely will not convince a bunch of historians and sociologists and whoever else is in this thread that you know more than we do about this and we should use it. I wish you AI enthusiasts would stop wading into our conversations. You have nothing helpful to contribute and are snarky.

we are living thorough 10 years of moral collapse. it’s happening everywhere but is concentrated in the US. we have given up on even trying to argue that there must be more to life, both individually and collectively, than bare materialism and power. we must rededicate ourselves to meaningful life.

By the same token anecdotal evidence shows that men are getting book contracts that assure they will have books put out by a major publisher until the year 2040 at least and are regularly on bestseller lists, yes, it's amazing what anecdotal evidence will show, all you need is a single anecdote
“Anecdotal evidence also suggests that men are being pushed out of the literary world.” Ah, yes, the famously reliable anecdata.

I’m a trained social worker. I worked with cases of CSA and other horrifying traumas. I didn’t learn til 6 months before I burnt out how dangerous and cumulative vicarious and secondary trauma are.

You don’t want this in your head and you don’t want it to live in your body. It doesn’t leave.
And as several folks are saying in the comments: curiosity about the Epstein files is understandable, but just for yourself personally, think carefully about what you want in your head forever.

It will come to you later in upsetting ways that you may not expect.

I promise you- people think they want to know the lurid details- they don't. I spent 30 years reading accounts of CA/SA and that shit never leaves your head.
I'm interested in knowing who was on public payroll and didn't do their jobs. And I'm happy to wait for the truth so it sticks.

an easy way to understand this is that people make clothes cool and not the other way around. so our judgement of what looks "good" is often shaped by the cultural capital of various social groups. punks, skaters, hip hop heads, etc look stylish simply bc they are cool. thus money is not a barrier.

No woman I know in academia would be surprised by this, but its good to see it documented like this, I guess.
Experimental evidence that students are more likely to contest grades when they are delivered by an evaluator with a female-sounding name.

"These findings suggest that women in evaluative positions face disproportionate resistance when delivering negative assessments."

Come for Katherine Hepburn and Peter O'Toole acting the hell out of one of history's great failed marriages.

Stay for the unbelievably young and beautiful Timothy Dalton and Anthony Hopkins as wistful exes.
