Thank you to Rep. Raskin and the over 100 members of Congress who signed a letter opposing home demolition orders in Umm al-Khair in the West Bank.

T'ruah rabbis have visited Umm al-Khair several times, learning about the settler and state violence that make life there nearly impossible. 🧵 (1/3)

We are so moved by the words of Rabbi Sarah Reines, who visited the West Bank with T'ruah and witnessed the settler attack: "The rising danger only increases my resolve to represent the highest Jewish values of respect, lovingkindness, peace and preservation of life in the land Jews call home.”

Last week, in a raid, ICE agents broke the ribs of and critically injured a 67-year-old man in a Chicago neighborhood. In the same operation, they deployed tear gas without warning. This is just one example of the mass deportation agenda playing out in Chicago. This cruelty must stop.

We are in a terrifying moment of rising authoritarianism and white nationalism. The far-right is eager to divide us. We need stronger relationships with allies who share our vision of a city and a country that is safe for everyone.

On Tuesday, armed settlers attacked a group of T'ruah rabbis volunteering during the olive harvest in the West Bank with Rabbis for Human Rights (RHR).

This was a taste of the violence Palestinian olive farmers living under occupation face during the harvest and all year.

"It was important for us to be there as U.S. rabbis who care about this place, in partnership with Israeli rabbis, to help a family harvest their olives, and to share with our communities the stories of both the Palestinians experiencing violence and the many Israelis who are standing with them..."

This state-backed violence is a daily occurrence for Palestinians in the West Bank, especially during the olive harvest. It is aimed at Palestinians but it doesn’t stop there. No one is safe in this reality, and all of us have to refuse this horror and end the occupation. (2/2)

"In secular Jewish American life, democracy is often treated as a Jewish value, and voting in elections as akin to a mitzvah. Yet is there a basis for this affinity for democracy in classical Jewish thought?"

This is an outrageous attempt to intimidate peace activists. These two US Jewish women must be released now.

Instead of arresting people who are peacefully supporting farmers in the olive harvest, the IDF should be arresting the settler extremists violently attacking Palestinians every day.
