I've put together my predictions for 2026 and 2027 temperatures over at The Climate Brink. I expect 2026 will likely end up similar to 2023 and 2025 at ~1.4C, while 2027 will likely be considerably warmer (conditional on El Nino): www.theclimatebrink....

What an astonishingly dishonest piece of propaganda for the fossil fuel industry, including its citing of Obama's extremely outdated energy policies and its misrepresentation of Norwegian public opinion.
“The mind-set shift needed here is to acknowledge that while climate change is real and harmful, the utility of fossil fuels is not something the oil and gas industry tricked the public into,” Matthew Yglesias writes.

I am just learning of this 2015 retraction, adding to my "science as amateur software engineering" files. Seems they classified missing values as obs outcome of interest (divorce). Classified 32% of sample divorced, rather than true 5%. retractionwatch.com/2015/07/21/t...

When climate change takes a flavor from the world.

My in-law family has told me about the tiny, intense pink shrimp that were harvested in stormy seas in Maine winters.

Now warming oceans have reduced the shrimp population to almost nothing, and the fishery has been officially closed.
New England’s shrimp fishery to shut down for the long haul after years of decline
Fishing regulators are extending a shutdown for New England’s historic shrimp fishing business, effectively shuttering an industry that fell victim to warming oceans.

La comunidad científica en la interface ciencia-política tiene un papel crucial: hacer preguntas. Sobre todo aquellas cuya respuesta los decisores no saben que necesitan, o saben que no quieren saber.

In this article, just out, I argue that scientists have a crucial role in the science-policy interface: keep making questions, especially those whose answers decision-makers don't know they want to know, or know they do not want to know.

Until we ALL completely stop reviewing for any for-profit venue, the thing will go on. I myself do it, I don't take on any review request whatsoever. And the other thing I do is fight to death using high impact factor journals as criteria in evaluation committees. But everybody MUST be on board!

A unique study of biodiversity in sub-Saharan Africa, in Nature, shows that the region has lost 24% of its biodiversity, and that over 80% of the remaining wild plants and animals live outside protected areas, meaning we have to re-think conservation in Africa.

As awful as this, the focus on whether the woman was complying obscures the more important issue: in a democracy, there should not be armed agents demanding to see papers of every passing person.
