You feel bad about us talking openly about the leadership protecting a woman who is currently on trial for killing a teenager and running from the scene? Honestly, good. You should feel bad about what you are doing. All you have to do to stop us talking about it is show some moral backbone.

You know how the NYT clearly supports Trump by hiding or softballing bad stories about him while exaggerating and hammering incessantly at negative stories about opponents?

The Strib does that for Jacob Frey.
To recap: Jeffrey Epstein offered a NY Times reporter photos taken in Epstein's kitchen of Donald Trump and girls in bikinis *and* implored the NYT reporter to put this information in the public discourse in 2015

What did the NY Times editors know about this offer?

Permanent supportive housing is a much better investment than tiny home villages. It just takes political will.

The actually amazing, intelligent, thoughtful people don't get rewarded for it. They aren't rich, they aren't powerful, because our society doesn't actually reward hard work and merit and cleverness and expertise. It uses them, and then projects their virtues onto those who are on top by chance.

it’s also straightforwardly a lie?

like the reason we have Trump is because America is a white supremacist patriarchy that refused to hold wealthy white men like Trump accountable and 10 billionaires decided to blow up the country because pronouns were in emails and wages got slightly better.

There’s more nuanced election analysis floating around, but don’t forget that many of our neighbors are simply assholes.

And assholes vote for assholes.

Who defaces a camp defense sticker to praise their pick for mayor? Someone who hates homeless people and loves Frey terrorizing them regularly.

We don’t talk enough about how much of a dick the mayor is
Everyone saw what happened to Koski. Going from AOM endorsed to "DSA aligned" over a few Council votes. Even before she started to run for Mayor, Frey was personally calling Ward 11 constituents to attack her & trying to recruit candidates to run against her for this perceived disloyalty to his $$.

If George Floyd's life and death kinda sorta mattered, Amir Locke's life sure the fuck did not matter to the voters of this city. That is abysmal when you think of it.

Frey paid no political cost for George Floyd, Amir Locke, Tekle Sundberg, Mariah Samuels, Davis Moturi. No cost for treating our houseless neighbors like shit.

Fuck you Minneapolis.

My sense of good possibility for the mayor election is that if Minneapolis voters look seriously at Frey and Frey's opponents and think "which of these people will help the city stand up against this Trump era" they will not say to themselves "yes, Jacob Frey is equipped to do that"

I would like to remind everyone that the Target that was raided and burned in Minneapolis during the uprising was used as a lab by Target and the MPD to test new surveillance tech. It wasn't chosen at random, there was a purpose.

The rich have too much money and are trying to buy every election, even local ones.
Elizabeth Shaffer has more than doubled the fundraising of Katie Cashman in Ward 7. $248k to $119k.

Analysis: The lesson conservative lakes area DFLers learned from the Scott Graham debacle wasn't to find a better council candidate, it was to dump more money on it.

Minneapolis deserves a mayor we can trust on police reform. The officer who killed Amir Locke was put in charge of use-of-force training by Jacob Frey’s police chief. When the situation became public, Frey doubled down on the chief’s decision before the people of Minneapolis forced a change.

7/ Caught in a lie, Frey never apologized. Instead, we got his famously weasely “Language became more casual, including my own.” BTW this is the 1st election voters can hold Frey accountable for lying & Locke dying, but the incident is almost memory-holed in coverage. www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/ne...
Minneapolis Mayor Frey Admits To Being Misleading On 'No-Knock' Policy Changes
"Language became more casual, including my own, which did not reflect the necessary precision or nuance. And I own that," Mayor Jacob Frey said.

Maybe MPLS knows this by now but it’s very easy to say you’ve banned no knock warrants and impossible to actually ban them without reducing police power. Frey has never been willing to consider anything but increasing that power, regardless of whether he genuinely thought he could ban that tactic.

I'd say cruelty has unintended consequences, but I don't think this is unintended. By using homeless people as pawns like this, he forces people to see them which makes it easier for him to scare-monger in an election year.
Continues to be striking how, since Frey erected the greenway fence to Lake/Nicollet, the crowd has returned en masse to 2900 block of Blaisdell. Frey bleats “you can’t have encampments by home & businesses“ but that’s exactly where he’s pushed these folks. Meanwhile 50 housing vouchers go unfunded.

I'm not saying peaceful protest is useless. but let's not lie to people and tell them the violence they'd endure will inevitably change hearts and minds.

we see how our current political and media sphere is quick to victim-blame and misrepresent protesters.

we showed the brutality of the anti-Black (and anti-ally) violence by police in 2020 (and before) yet we still got Trump for a second term and police violence has only worsened.
We’re in a moment now where it would be worth people taking three hours to watch Gandhi, particularly the scene of the salt march. There is value to making the brutality of your opponent so plain as day that no one can argue with it. The clarity of that brought down an empire
