one of the tragedies of sloganeering Frey as some hero of affordable housing only to promote a certain kind of politic, it flattens the whole honest discussion we should be having about how to build housing for all and make dignified affordable housing a right in this country

Why has the government been closed at all if Senate Dems cave now? Didn't they say that they could not go along with throwing millions of people off health care?

What's materially changed? A *promise* is not action. ALSO fascists lie and I've been told by some Senate Dems that the GOP is fascist.

Democrats ran the table on Tuesday at state and local levels, getting not just its base excited but “normies” fed up over the last 10mo, so of course national Democrats want to do everything to pop the air in the balloon.
At this point, it’s clear that the Hamburglar, Dr Evil, and Sideshow Bob are advising Chuck Schumer.

DA’s 🧵 is worth reading & I would only note that Davis spent a good part of the campaign with ZERO paid staff. The Minneapolis “middle” (center-left, whatever you want to call it) doesn’t have any sort of durable campaign infrastructure. Frey does & DSA does. You need 2+ years to win mayor‘s race.
this analysis is strange in that it doesnt answer the fundamental question about Minneapolis voters - if Frey's multiple lies and polarizing ways were truly against their values and they were tired of it, why did they not choose Davis? www.startribune.com/jacob-frey-r...
Roper: Jacob Frey can thank the far left for handing him another term
Frey was a vulnerable incumbent. But progressives banked on the wrong guy to beat him.

New podcast episode! Recorded the day after the election, a relatively quick set of immediate reactions and questions: millcityhall.com/episodes/202... - as I say in the episode, day-after analysis should be treated suspiciously. But we gotta start somewhere.

I know some folks were asking for something like this (@meshm.bsky.social iirc) So I made a quick dot density map of the first choice Minneapolis mayoral results. This allows you to see two things that choropleth maps can't show... umn.maps.arcgis.com/apps/mapview...

The rank DeWayne Davis first then Frey second vote, or at all, is diabolically stupid 😆

And then after Locke was executed in his own home, Frey tried to pressure DeWayne Davis to come home & stand with him at a presser for political cover! Appreciate Brauer for sharing that part bc we still probably wouldn’t know about it. Honestly one of the most repugnant things I’ve heard in ages

Jacob Frey voters should be asked one abiding honest question, what thing would you hold him accountable for?
November 6, 2025 at 1:40 AM
If George Floyd's life and death kinda sorta mattered, Amir Locke's life sure the fuck did not matter to the voters of this city. That is abysmal when you think of it.

Jazz voters: 43% Frey, 37% Omar, 20% blank

Davis voters: 23% Frey, 62% Omar, 15% blank

Jazz is about what I expected, surprised at how many DeWayne votes went to Frey

Question I'll be wrestling w/ - why my fellow DeWayne folks trusted him enough to be Mayor but not enough to buy into his strategy

I’m not saying my side hasn’t used profanity to respond to a Team Frey text but this guy manages Team Frey, which performatively fainted when Aisha Chughtai referenced the mayor this way. I call on Jacob Frey to repudiate this outrage!

I waited to listen to this because I did not want to give this guy that much space in my head, but it’s a great recent-history reminder from Jesse and @robingarwood.bsky.social and @camgordon.bsky.social. (My schadenfreude got me through it.)
New episode! We try to tell the story of Jacob Frey, from candidate to city councilmember to mayor to successful disaster: millcityhall.com

Come for the analysis, stay for the stories about bloody nipples, the BAC, and “why is IF capitalized?”

This is part 1 - expect part 2 next week

Let’s be clear, most EBT users are white. The reason he’s specifically lying about “weaves” and we’ve seen so many AI fakes of Black women ranting about food stamps is they need to make BW the face EBT because they know many Americans don’t care if Black people suffer, and some actually wish for it.
ROB SCHMITT: People are using SNAP benefits to get their nails done, to get their weaves and their hair. This is a really ugly program.

SEN. RON JOHNSON: That program needs to be dramatically reformed.
