- there is no wrong way to be queer
- there is no lgb without the t or the q
- fascism is to be opposed in all its forms forever, no compromise or backing down

“you can be disappeared”

this is actually happening to people irl in this country, getting a temporary suspension from Bluesky is not the same thing. grow up
BlueSky is a bad site used by good people. That describes most social media sites. But BlueSky is egregiously unethical. Any of you can be disappeared for baseless reasons. I've been on social media for 17 years and never been suspended. BlueSky is the first place to do so – over Johnny Cash lyrics.

This is something that pretty much ALL platforms need to improve on. Mystery bans, suspensions, and other mod actions help nobody and likely make compliance *worse* by building resentment in fanbases
I do agree that Bluesky massively needs to improve how it notifies people about suspensions - it needs to be 100% clear what it was for, and how long the suspension will last.

the astonishing thing about this wave of denialism is that we have more or less decidedly hit the point where clean energy is the *cheaper* option by some distance
I'm kind of baffled how the "moderates" have apparently all decided to turn against climate policy at once, just as China reaches green electrostate liftoff mode. I thought these people were all about National Greatness and making Hard Choices

all I’m gonna say is that I am a life-long slightly edgy poster and I’ve never caught a suspension or a ban anywhere - because it is in fact quite easy to avoid crossing the “this joke could possibly be construed as a violent threat” line on social media

I can't believe I have to say this but suspending an account advocating somebody be fed into a woodchipper is not "siding with pedo apologists", get a grip people.

and to be VERY clear here, I'd like to just stake this one out: I simply DO NOT LIKE that so many of the QTs are veering so heavily into 'the only cure for pedos & their defenders is a bullet' territory. that's the same position that the gun-toting crazies who threaten all of us take! it's bad!

If you want to know why content moderation is the most thankless job in all of tech, look no further than the replies & QTs to this wrt an action that was probably the correct one. (There's obviously room for argument here, but all things being equal, I'd likely fall down on a temp suspension, too.)
patton oswalt has been suspended from bluesky for saying that megyn kelly should be fed to a woodchipper for justifying the sexual abuse of minors

As a long-time but former subscriber of the NYT, I think they have demonstrated a lack of editorial integrity and that is only confirmed that the NYT no longer has a public editor and has cultivated an culture where NYT journalists speak publicly as if they are above criticism from readers.+
"I'm a rando who prefers to believe that everything is a conspiracy and am happy to tell women that I know better than she does how their literal job works" That a news org makes an editorial decision you wouldn't (or I wouldn't) doesn't mean someone is killing a story on behalf of a powerful person
"I write for the New York Times, and I can assure you that we've never buried stories on behalf of powerful people, many of those powerful people being part of NYT management. We only publish what's fit to print, like Zohran's application to Columbia that was leaked by a white nationalist"

A vital thing to understand about Catholicism on the web is that one of the number one things r/askapriest tells its users is “do not listen to anything anyone says on r/catholicism that your priest hasn’t already said” and almost all online supposedly-Catholic spaces are worse than r/catholicism
people still complain a lot about "reddit atheism", as if we aren't being ruled over by a bunch of reddit catholics

This is a newspaper that published numerous stories about a 17 year old from Uganda checking a box on a college form that said “African American”
The emails that you’re seeing now are news in themselves, but that’s because of how they’re coming out—a congressional committee released them—& the context in which they’re being viewed. A guy emailing a reporter talking about old girlfriends or saying someone is “dirty” is not a whole news story.
