Shitposter of comic and pulp characters
Rereads of this comic have me say things aloud like “Oh yeah! The guy who eats dirt!”

What artist’s depiction of The Question do you love?

My first Hitchcock thing! I really enjoyed it!

Forever People and Kirby’s Jimmy Olsen also were a revelation to me

I read pulps and comics to learn how superhero fiction has shaped this bullshit country

I write primarily for the monastic scribes of the feudal society that will emerge from America’s blasted ruins. They deserve to know about Batman too

He’s so Charlton that Dick Giordano helped Jurgens a little bit with his creation

Had the thought that with Booster Gold so tied in with Blue Beetle, he's kind of an honourary Charlton character - and started imagining a Steve Ditko-ized version of him.

Multiple but
Comic heroes: The Question, Captain Atom, Moon Knight, Blue Beetle, The Spirit, Booster Gold, Doctor Fate

Pulp heroes: The Shadow, Doc Savage, The Spider, G-8, Operator 5, The Avenger

Comics-wise, I’m happy to have a bunch of big collections for read/rereading. 80’s runs of The Question, JLI, Doom Patrol, Doctor Fate etc

I also have some non-big two comics I’m excited to get to like A Contract With God, Do a Power Bomb, The One Hand & The Six Fingers, and stuff like that
Just finished Tarzan the Terrible: a book that ends with Tarzan’s son sniping all the villains with less than ten pages to spare.

And I’m starting The Destroyer: Lords of the Earth. My first Remo Williams novel about an evil billionaire with a mutant bug army.

Both are right up my alley.

Yeah much of his writing has the appearance of being uncouth but he was also ahead of his time in a lot of other ways.

I wish a happy new year to you all. I’ll try to post more here in 2026. To summarize my year in reading:
Dune Messiah rules
Pride and Prejudice rules
Frankenstein rules
Moby Dick rules
Valis rules

Pulps and comics also rule

Watching the original Godzilla for the first time and it’s so clear in every scene how directly this inspired Jaws

I’ve started a proper read-through of Kirby’s Fourth World, starting with Jimmy Olsen and Forever People.

It’s so visually spectacular and inventive that it kind of pisses me off. Most New Gods stuff by other people seem bland and boring in comparison.
