senators Bennet and Hickenlooper just spoke on the floor about NCAR. Sen Bennet tried to raise their amendment to protect NCAR through unanimous consent, but Sen. Susan Collins objected, killing the motion.
Thursday, January 15, 2026 2:23 p.m. Senator Hickenlooper spoke on the National Center for Atmospheric Research and health research. 1:36 p.m. Senator Bennet spoke about the National Center for Atmospheric Research. He then asked for unanimous consent for the Senate to call up amendment 4153 to H.R.6938, Commerce, Justice, Science; Energy and Water Development; and Interior and Environment Appropriations. Senator Collins objected to his request.

I look forward to the legally required, transparent peer review process required by the US Global Change Research Act and the Information Quality Act. I always thought they would try to do a NCA with Judith Curry, five old men and a LLM.
It’s the gold standard of US climate research. Contrarians could write the next one.
Researchers who have downplayed the threat of global warming have been asked to author the next National Climate Assessment.

At an @agu.org Town Hall today, @ncar-ucar.bsky.social President Antonio Busalacchi spoke to #AGU25 attendees about what's at stake if NCAR is dismantled.
