Anchorage reported 7.2" snow today (thru 3 pm) and 10.6" over two days. The monthly total of 39.7" is a new January record and the 5th snowiest month overall (52.1" in Feb 1996; 48.5" in Feb 1955; 41.6" in Dec 1955; 41.2" in Dec 2022). @alaskawx.bsky.social

Newark Int Airport reported Heavy Snow and a temperature of 11F. This is the lowest temperature on record for them (1930-present) where they reported Heavy Snow. Previous record was 12F in 1932 and again in 2014.

The Lower 48 is 4.5F above normal so far this month. The final 9 days of the month would need to average 9F below normal to bring the monthly average just back to average. That is probably where we will end up.
