With Ames + Des Moines, IA having a high of 67°F today, my kids forced me to compute the climate sites with the highest frequency of a six seven high temp. The overall "winner" within my database is Hawaii National Park, HI (~1200m) at 25 days per year with a number of CA sites not far behind. #sigh

The Hawkeyes are 34-1 when scoring 21+ points since 2020.... Wait, Iowa has scored 21 points in 35 games over the past 5 years? That seems high.

Surprised to find the Aviation Weather Center METAR service discontinued overnight. The future is here I guess: aviationweather.gov/data/api/ Continues my long standing rant that the NCEP centers do whatever they want on the web while weather.gov can't change anything without SCN/comment period.

Perhaps because I was familiar with Ed and Andrew struck after my first summer working at WSFO MIA, this TCU still haunts me.

I always get super nervous seeing things like this based off the 5 minute MADIS data at 38C! We'll see once the DSM comes any minute now :)
We did it!! Tampa hit 100 degrees at the airport at 3:30 pm for the first time on record!!
Records go back to 1890. It took 135 years.
It’s still unofficial. NWS will have to verify.

One always feels bad emailing the SDM in these situations as they likely are getting slammed by emails and can't send any alerts themselves as their dissemination is down as well. Alas, a data flow outage is afoot...

Plot shows weekly normalized NWS issuance counts of TOR, SVR, and FF Warnings. Top panel is Iowa WFOs and the bottom panel is nationwide. For Iowa, small populations during winter weeks cause the noisy bars. Clean annual signals otherwise.
