Instead of retiring, 3-5 GOP Congresspeople could stop this Administration cold. The culture in Congress that sees itself as the President’s handmaiden as opposed to the Article I branch has rotted every inch of it. Not just cowardice, a learned helplessness.
PUNCHBOWL: “.. GOP members messaged us over the weekend saying that they, too, are considering retiring in the middle of the term. Here’s one particularly exercised senior House Republican:

This cracks me up so hard.

But also, having been to an underground party in a cathedral ...

I don’t believe this but if it’s anywhere close to this next November we’re going to see Blexas and more, Dems have not won the white vote since 1964

🔵 Democrats: 50%
🔴 Republicans: 46%

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

Counterpoint. This is NOT a really good thread from Tom, as it completely misses the fact that the fascist strategy being ineptly pieced together by Trump, is not equally distributed, but is attacking selected targets first & leaving white men like Tom & I unaffected from direct aggression for now.
Really good thread from Tom
1. If America were fascist right now, I would not be posting here. Neither would you.

Instead, I - and you - would be trying to build networks of people *offline* who can support and protect each other, in the dark, rather than yelling at the president and his stooges in our own names. /2

Absolutely howling at this track a dad left his daughter on a random and bizarre mix tape he made for her before he died.

Come for the vocals; stay for the final line 🤣 what a wonderful gift to leave her and what a wholesome reaction!

Just left VM for Padilla and an email for Schiff (whose voicemail was full) telling them this sucks and that Schumer must go.

It's annoying that we have to keep doing this, but we have to keep doing this. Please call your senators.

I had no idea Teen Vogue's turn towards political coverage was shepherded by an African American woman. I just know that their work ran circles around the NYT and WaPo when it came to asking hard questions and speaking the truth plainly.

Condé Nast should be ashamed to be tearing her work down.
Elaine Welteroth, former editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue and youngest editor of Condé Nast ever, and the 2nd African American to hold this position, changed Teen Vogue to be more politically conscious.

Traffic to TeenVogue.com: 2.7M to 9.2M visitors a year, print subscriptions jumped 535%
Ex-Teen Vogue editor Elaine Welteroth: ‘The headlines implied I was a token black hire’
Welteroth was just 29 when Anna Wintour made her editor-in-chief. Months later, the magazine shut down. What did she do next?

Teen Vogue and WIRED are both part of Conde Nast. If they've cut the politics coverage at Teen Vogue... it makes me worried they'll cut Wired as well. I hope not, but...
Two of the media organizations that have really "met the moment" in national coverage are Teen Vogue and WIRED.

Along with student-run college newspapers in general. And scores of local start-ups.

The main hope for journalism (in its dark times) is the next wave of journalists.
For any unfamiliar with the quality of journalism at Teen Vogue, it's well known for hard-hitting stories on "politically sensitive" topics including climate.

Then there's CBS: the only major network to increase climate coverage in the last few years. They just axed nearly their whole climate team.

One of the few outlets providing clear, truth-to-power reporting.

Their corporate overlords were not amused, I guess.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

I don't know if it all works. It might be a little too long. But it is GORGEOUS and interesting and engaging.

Nothing fills me with hope like pictures from protests in small towns in red parts of the country.

I protested today in Long Beach. The energy is awesome and it feels nice. But the real change is going to happen when people in counties that went for Trump say "enough."
