I've been collecting pandemic era signs that nobody can be bothered to take down or remove. There's something grimly fascinating about this. Putting them up was urgent and important; removing them is nobody's job. How long will some of these hang around?

extremely delightful to be retroactively validated in all my most self-indulgent mid-20s narcissicisms. "you know who I bet is reading my posts? extremely cool hot girls. I bet they're reading them to each other out loud and talking about how funny I am"

Current flu wave has peaked! Fingers crossed that's mostly it and we don't get a bigger one later (though that is quite possible). Definitely not too late to benefit from a jab if you don't have one. I'd take this peak as weak evidence the vax gives some protection. bsky.app/profile/paul...
Even obvious on the linear plots now.

My children’s primary school was a polling station. One polling day, the only election in our area was for the Police & Crime Commissioner. 415 kids lost a day of schooling & all their families had to arrange alternative care. 13 people voted.

there's a priest who's job, twice a day, is to lift a floor stone in the nave and check the water level with a Holy Dipstick and communicate if the sluice needs adjusting

again, i am not exaggerating

Tired: em dash (long literary pedigree; now terminally associated with AI gotchas).

Wired: Frankendash (a nameless mode of naming the unnameable; gothic af; hey AI bros, let's see _your_ ungodly creation do _this_).
For anyone who is like “the creature is also named Frankenstein”; Mary Shelley went to see a play version of Frankenstein and was tickled that they listed the creature as “———“ in the dramatis personae:

“this nameless mode of naming the unnameable is rather good”

No more steps! 🙌

We're pleased that @nationaltrust.org.uk & the county council are planning a new bridge over Burwell Lode. It will be 3-4m wide with a max. gradient of 1:20 on the 2 access ramps. Construction is due to start in July 2026.

Pretty much. The estimate in 2012 was "£30m" which is the industry equivalent of saying "lol fuck no never"

I do love though that we're now approaching the 30th anniversary of everyone deciding that doing nothing about the big explodey ship was absolutely not an option.

Good work everyone 👍
Anyway. Don't worry.

The Maritime & Coastguard Agency’s 1998 report into the wreck of the SS Montgomery concluded that "do nothing" wasn't an option for this particular ship full of UXO sat beneath the Thames.

So I'm sure they'll deal with it promptly.

The last annual review concluded the SS Richard Montgomery was perfectly safe!

And as a demonstration of exactly how safe it is it also banned aircraft from flying anywhere near it in case, y'know, the wreck spontaneously makes itself a lot safer in a manner incompatible with continued aviation...
