If you’re autistic don’t buy a house. None of this process makes any logical sense at all. Baffling and silly.

I wonder if the LMU presidium is capable of shame. Evidently not if this is any reflection.
The LMU announces the cancellation of a seminar on the topic "the targeting of Palestinian academia". The cancellation announcement is titled "LMU as a place of pluralistic discourse". Couldn't make this up.

There's a song whose lyrics involve being in a cab in New York (Brooklyn specifically iirc) and whose narrator says she was up until late on day n, immediately clarifying that this entails being up until early on day n+1. What is this song?

Historian pals: looking for some reading recommendations on post-1945 sex work in England and, particularly, London — both in terms of its actual conduct as well as campaigns against it, including by police. Particularly late 1950s-early 1960s!

I'm on strike for the next three days in protest at my employer's refusal to rule out compulsory redundancies as part of their cost-cutting vision for a radically diminished university. My school makes a healthy profit, most of which goes back into central coffers, yet still we're told to save more.

I do sometimes think it would be funny to reply to Americans obviously posting about US politics with replies assuming they were talking about say Cyprus or another smallish country with very specific politics, like with bog-standard Simpsons memes except about ‘bizonal bicommunal federation’.

Sigh. Obviously.
This.
This would provide asylum seekers with an incentive to deal with human traffickers, who will offer to liquidate valuables and lodge the proceeds with unlicensed hawala exchanges for collection after entry

Horrible. These could be pieces with huge sentimental or religious value. What a vile thing.
The Sun has been told Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood will on Monday propose confiscating jewellery, watches, necklaces from asylum seekers to meet asylum costs

This reflects the most controversial aspect of the Danish scheme - the Jewellery Law. The toughest Labour MPs thought this was OTT

It’s all about the humanities! Who’d have thought?
Health is a social problem, not a technical one. It will be solved socially and politically, or not at all.
“We’re drawn to magic bullet solutions that cannot solve complex social problems. It is all too easy for someone who makes a genuinely profound discovery to think they have found the secret of life, or the environment, or disease.”

Been a while since the pink beanie came out. Sheffield pickets here we come.

Our message to management is simple: No redundancies. Stop the incessant restructures. Listen to your staff. There is no University of Sheffield without us.

What a kamikaze piece of political madness that is on the eve of their asylum package

All very true but was the ‘North London’ dogwhistle really necessary?
Glasman represents a long standing Labour tradition of North London intellectuals who think they understand the working classes which in his case is to think they are racists who must be pandered to (the Tony Benn version was more romantic if just as wrong)

Good luck in negotiations Nottingham 👊🏼
In response to our industrial action, the university proposed a resolution that removed the threat of compulsory redundancies for the next year and introduced a negotiation process over course closures. And at our branch meeting, we accepted this offer.

Far too many SWP placards for my liking. It’s such a shame.
Hundreds of Oxford residents marched across Oxford to demonstrate against racism and in solidarity with migrants in an ‘Oxford Unity March and Rally’. Chants included ‘this is what community looks like’ and calls to ‘fight back’ against racism.

But hey, it’s a huge step to recognize that she’s contributed to place we’re in.
