Maduro had lost the aloha spirit
I believe this is the latest social media post from the US Director of National Intelligence, who hasn’t otherwise been heard from today.

Trump on María Corina Machado: "I think it'd be very tough for her to be the leader. She doesn't have the support or the respect within the country. She's a very nice woman but she doesn't have the respect."

in a countryside gastropub and having potted shrimp and cauliflower cheese for dinner, which I'm pleased with as a combo but doesn't half feel like a Brit turning up to a French restaurant and getting the boeuf bourguignon with a side of tartiflette

[visibly wincing] just like me fr
I have to admit lads, "pretend we just fought and won a war without actually fighting a war or achieving any of its aims" is an incredible bit.

My understanding was that when you did regime change it was customary to change the regime.
“The display of force and unity undermined President Trump's earlier comments that Washington would work with Rodriguez to run Venezuela.”

[blithely ignoring the news]

finally got my black and white film back from my Paris trip last month, isn't it nice and quite pleasantly dramatic

wow check it out everyone, Ben wants to kiss Maduro on the mouth
You don’t have to caveat your condemnation of blatant disregard for international law with your negative opinion about Maduro. Indeed, it’s better if you don’t.

100% seriously, European leaders and Commission officials should plan on the basis that the US might do this to them too, about Greenland, about tech regulation, about “Christian values”, about “free speech”, whatever.
Fucking hell.

Think the referance to US Law Enforcement here is quite telling as well: a huge extension of how far the US feels its laws reach.

Apparently its fine to now attack and kidnap a head of state because of 'US law'. Fucking hell.
Trump says Maduro is in US custody.

this is right but it makes me v sad as someone whose pipeline to Online ran via street style websites and random teenage girls posting pictures of their outfits on their blogs - I love looking at pictures of random people wearing nice things! I love posting pictures of myself wearing nice things!
If you're a normal person taking bathroom or makeup selfies bc you feel cute, you should just stop. Return to tradition, share it with your friends on group texts. Any public photo is now fuel for the Porn Machine.

If your career/hobby involves sharing pics of yourself, it just sucks.

I love church So Much. It's always like this. Like, yes. We WILL spend £100,000 on candles in 2026. You're correct , finance software. The deficit will be immense. And God will delight in my masterful conflagration.
It's the new financial year in the CofE and I've not yet put in the new budget numbers but we've had some invoices to pay and our finance system is now projecting we'll spend [checks notes] £100,000 on candles

somebody who is good at the economy help me with this, etc

Britishly parsed "gear" as cocaine there, which I felt defeated the purpose somewhat
It's Dry January again and that means it's time for me to pick my expensive gear-based hobby for 2026. Current front-runners include fishing and backyard astronomy

Most of the derangement about Mamdani is for the obvious reasons but part of it is also that a surprising amount of people were committed to the Cuomo rehabilitation project because they hated the idea that anything could have consequences for men of the right class.

This is quite an important point; if you are a UK citizen with Twitter on your phone, opening it up is like playing Russian roulette that the algorithm might commit a strict liability offence on your behalf.
Has everyone whose scroll the illegal image appeared on also committed an offence by downloading it? This is one of those AI worst case scenarios that ought to make everyone aware of the current direction of travel.

insane story, this - a note was sent over the summer to the cleaners of the RATP (Parisian equivalent of TfL) asking them to remove all plastic water bottles from the bathrooms in case they were being used by Muslim staff to do ablutions before prayers???
Des bouteilles d’eau retirées au cas où elles seraient utilisées pour prier : à la RATP, agents et sous-traitants musulmans dans le viseur
