Job losses are obviously going to be a huge consequence of AI, but something likely to materialise much sooner (indeed already materialising!) and which requires a political intervention yesterday is the impact on education.

Also fascinated to know whether that staffer would ever call a woman a chick / a trans woman a chick with a dick to their face, other than when talking to a journo and trying to make out that they're some blokey salt of the earth prick.

Okay so this is going to derail my entire afternoon, stand by for the entire PLP sorted into “sensibles”, “aura farmers” and “shitposters”.
www.theverge.com/policy/79849...

Aura Farmers beat Sensibles. Shitposters beat Aura Farmers. Sensibles beat Shitposters.

Nandy in The Guardian today had strong shitposter energy.

I find this argument unconvincing. AI is definitely going to change society massively but the suggestion in this post that we are weeks away from a Covid-level destabilisation just doesn’t stand up to scrutiny. And the post is clearly written with AI by someone with a financial incentive to boost AI
This post argues AI is having a moment similar to when you heard about some illness in China back in February 2020.

Tech workers just watched AI go from “helpful tool” to “does my job better than I do.” Everyone else is next. Get your financial house in order and lean into what’s hardest to replace
Something Big Is Happening
A personal note for non-tech friends and family on what AI is starting to change.

I realise I cropped that poorly, but yes that is apparently a “senior figure” with Starmer making a “chicks with dicks” jibe in a briefing to the Spectator headlined by a quote from another Labour official saying this:

“Calling for curbs on levels of immigration is one thing” back to the drawing board I think, diva!

It wasn’t really the sort of statement one can explain away but, even so, this is a particularly poor attempt to explain it away.

In a press conference today about the Johannesburg water crisis, ANC Premier of Gauteng Panyaza Lesufi said residents were wrong to think politicians weren’t suffering too, saying “I had to shower in a hotel”. They are GIFTING this election to Helen Zille.

I suppose one test of post-Morgan Starmer is to see whether he does his usual thing of pissing away the goodwill from this tomorrow by calling the left “anti-meal deal values” or something.
Downing Street weighing in on Jim Ratcliffe's comments about immigration. A Number 10 spokesperson said “Jim Ratcliffe should immediately apologise. His offensive remarks are wrong and play into the hands of those who want to divide our country.”

This is an unfortunate, horrible situation. No easy answers here but maintaining contact with an old friend convicted of a crime is surely not the same as campaigning for them to be elected after they are accused.
Describing Morton as “someone who grew up with me, and who is to all intents and purposes, family”, she said: “I have never condoned his crimes and have always been clear that his actions were wrong”. But he was “a highly vulnerable person" required support

I just realised that Starmer’s Labour isn’t aimed the median voter - it is a median voter. That’s why none of the policies match up with each other and the one constant belief through everything is that the government is doing a bad job
This is exactly it. On essentially every issue, this Labour government is either too leftwing - a bunch of anti-business measures that nobody cares about, an infrastructure binge at a time when it should want downward pressure on rates, etc. etc. - or too rightwing (as set out below).
This convo has been had so many times but it’s worth repeating - most left wing people in 2026 are progressives who aren’t keen on things like Reformy style immigration policies or cuts to welfare for disabled ppl.

They aren’t checking state spending rates in their analysis of left vs right
