This is incredible! BIRD (setting a straw hat jauntily upon his little bird head): Yeah, well, I got fifty thousand more tidbits to tell people before 9PM, so… APRONNI: Is it — JUST you? ALWAYS? There isn’t a little bird corps? You’re THE little bird? BIRD: I used to have a lizard and a raccoon helping me out too, but it muddled the brand. [CUT AWAY TO: A new man, Cuthbert, addresses his coworker] CUTHBERT: ’Morning, Jerbert! A weird raccoon told me your daughter’s about to graduate from kindergarten! JERBERT: You are never to talk TO or OF my family EVER AGAIN [BACK TO SCENE] APRONNI: Sure, I can see that. APRONNI: But WHY do you go around telling people things? What’s your angle? New blog post on Wondermark!
HEADLINE: I made this video about a puppet that I also made TEXT: Here is a video of me making a puppet! And then performing a little with that puppet! Some of you may recognize this technique as a callback to another series of puppet videos I made, some years ago. (As demonstrated here) It’s been a fun idea to revisit, and I plan to do it some more. This is, of course, related to my Wondermark-themed card game, Bolted! Which now has final box art:

A man in an apron, aptly named Apronni, addresses his coworker: APRONNI: JULIORA! A little bird told me it was your birthday next Wednesday! Juliora comes in to reply. JULIORA: A little bird? Like, a BIRD bird? TALKED to you? APRONNI: Yeah. Came to my window last night around eight. Now we see a little pigeon perched on the sill of an open window. Apparently Apronni lives in a barn, or something like a barn? It’s not entirely clear. BIRD: Pssst. Hey buddy. [Apronni enters.] She’s been looking at ski boots on Zappos. Do what you will with this information. Back in the office now, flashback over. JULIORA: Because I’VE seen a little bird too! It let me know when a Zumba class opened up in my area! ENTREBERT (entering with his hands held a pigeon’s width apart): A little bird? About yea big? Knows a lot about when jeans go on sale? Yeah, I’ve seen ‘I’m! A farmer stands in front of a worker who is tending to a fruit tree. The farmer speaks to us, the viewer. FARMER: Halloween has gotten too corporate! Big Candy pushes its sugar-laden garbage as the only sensible choice compared to razor-bladed apples! Another example of big business using its marketing muscle to destroy the small entrepreneur! Well, guess what, Nestle? We only use genuine U.S. steel in our razor blades! Each blade is lovingly tied to an emerging springtime blossom so that the apple grows around the blade seamlessly! Some things are still done by hand! [He takes a bite of the apple, which CRUNCHES.] Ow! Aah!! [Blood is now running down his chin.] Delicious!

JEREDITH: Thank SHOE GARY: Trindy as "Sexy Chess" TRINDY: CheckMATE GARY: Blindora as "Sexy Dynamite" BLINDORA: Bang! Bang! Amberspatch and Bellowton are once again riding different steeds. Amberspatch is on a small hippo. Bellowton is sidesaddle on a very normal quadrupedal giant chicken. They continue their conversation about sports. AMBERSPATCH: I'm interested in your...RITUALS related to sports, so I talked to another fan. HE said the reason your team lost WASN'T related to the socks anyone wore, OR whether he watched on TV or listened to the radio AMBERSPATCH: According to THIS guy, the main factor was the decision to PITCH to the other team's best hitter, rather than walk him; since first base was open, it would have set up the force out for a double play. And doing so after having pulled the starting pitcher in the FIRST place, in favor of a weaker pitcher from the bullpen AMBERSPATCH: Which, in HIS view, points the finger at managerial malpractice. All made WORSE by ownership's lack of willingness to pony up for better hitters from the bottom of the lineup. BELLOWTON: SURE. Insufferable after-the-fact armchair coaches like that are a dime a dozen. AMBERSPATCH: But YOU prefer to focus on wearing the right socks and so on. BELLOWTON: Look, if the bus might be headed off the cliff anyway, I prefer having a toy steering wheel to keep my hands busy

Amberspatch & Bellowton continue their ride across the plain. Amberspatch is now on a giant raccoon. Bellowton is on a camel, but the saddle is on the camel's neck. Seems possibly uncomfortable for the camel. AMBERSPATCH: So if the game goes WELL, you need to do everything exactly the same for the next one. Down to where you watch, what you wear, the snacks, everything. BELLOWTON: Well, yeah. That alchemy WORKED. It's obviously an inexact science, so the SAFEST thing to do is LIMIT the variables however possible. AMBERSPATCH: Clearly, whatever your fans did, made the team win. Meaning, whatever THEIR fans did, made them LOSE. So, won't they be trying a bunch of DIFFERENT things on their side? AMBERSPATCH: That's introducing all KINDS of new variables. BELLOWTON: PROBABLY! Why do you think we HATE THEM so much!!

Two men are having a conversation while riding on horseback, as you sometimes do. AMBERSPATCH: Sorry your team had a rough night yesterday. BELLOWTON: My own fault. BELLOWTON: I watched the game on TV. When they won the day before, I was listening on the radio. Lesson learned! Radio ONLY tonight. AMBERSPATCH: I know these superstitions are...CRUCIAL. But wouldn't it be NICER to watch it on TV? BELLOWTON: "SUPERSTITIONS"? BELLOWTON: Was it ME, one person, watching the game on TV from miles away, that CAUSED the wild pitch that let their runner score? Of COURSE not. That's silly. BELLOWTON (now leaning in extremely closely): It was ALL OF US, COLLECTIVELY, doing NOT ENOUGH things right. I am going to DO MY PART so I don't have to LIVE with the GUILT! AMBERSPATCH: Okay! BELLOWTON: Does ONE VOTE swing an election? You still VOTE, DON'T YOU?! AMBERSPATCH: OKAY!!

"But come first of OCTOBER, haul out the coffins an' the stage blood an' the horrors of the grave! It's PERVERSE! Celebrating DEATH an' MISERY an' shoving SPIDERS at CHILDREN! People work HARD to stay ALIVE! Doctors work their FINGERS to NUBS keeping people breathing! A cause you'd like to think NO ONE could object to! INT. SITTING ROOM - DAY JENKEN (be-piped) and PRONCHIE (her hand on his chair back) are reviewing important documents when the longsuffering LEMMETHA comes in and leans on a doorframe. LEMMETHA: I got tired of waiting, so I started fixing the chair by myself. Where do you keep the chair putty? Should I go buy some? JENKEN (alarmed): CHAIR putty? HOLD ON, hold on… INT. WORKSHOP - MOMENTS LATER Jenken is now hard at work chiseling a chair, which is being held in a vise. JENKEN: All we really have to do is adjust the back like this… In the box of IKEA LEFTOVERS there’s probably one of the right brackets… Pronchie watches the whole thing with veiled amusement. PRONCHIE: You realize, the whole “fixing it myself” bit was a ruse to get YOU to finally fix it. PRONCHIE: She’s figured out how to hack your motivation circuit, dude! JENKEN: Honestly, I’m glad SOMEONE has! I can be the owner OR the operator of this brain, but not both at the same time

CHILTRED: I heard this great joke earlier. What WAS it? AARRGH!! I can't remember! Something about dogs and ducks. DANGIT!! It was really funny. Now it's GONE. PERMBLEY (the other man, seated): Is the distress you're feeling now greater than the joy the joke gave you originally? CHILTRED: Oh, enormously. PERMBLEY: So the EXISTENCE of this joke has been a NET LOSS for you! Don't REGRET its disappearance! RUE that it ever appeared! CURSE ITS MEMORY!! CHILTRED: I don't HAVE its memory! PERMBLEY: It has inflicted a joke-shaped SCAR on your psyche! FIE ON YOU, sinister dog joke! NEVER AGAIN dare to darken my dear friend's skull! CHILTRED: WAIT. I remembered it. PERMBLEY: NOPE! CHARLEK, one of the kids from the previous comic in which kids were talking about how adults always try to change them, is now speaking with his MOM. MOM: Please wash your hands for dinner! CHARLEK: I'm perfectly self-actualized just as I am, thank you. MOM: Honey, when we give you instructions like "Wash your hands", we're not trying to make you into SOMEONE ELSE. We're trying to help you become the BEST version OF you, using knowledge and perspective that you don't have yet. Such as the germ theory of disease. MOM: So when we ask you to do things, it's in what WE believe to be YOUR best interest. Do you TRUST us? CHARLEK: I mean, I GUESS CHARLEK: But what about when you make me assembled sticker packs for your Etsy store? Is THAT in my best interest? MOM: THAT'S because Mama's got a bunch of BACKORDERS! Two kids, ALFY and BARBO, are chatting. Barbo is standing on a set of stilts. This is not relevant. ALFY: You ever get this from your parents? "Don't worry, there's nothing wrong with you, you're perfectly normal..." ALFY: I KNOW I am! Why are YOU bringing it up? What secret intel do YOU have about how I'm SUPPOSED to be feeling? ALFY: Because I feel GREAT! Check your EXPECTATIONS! BARBO: Grown-ups LIE to us, dude. Every other word my mom says is: "You're great" - "We love you JUST the way you are" - "You're the BEST YOU that you can be" - and so on. BARBO: So I told her, "The person that I AM DOESN'T wear jackets, DOESN'T brush their teeth, and NEVER has to go to bed!" A third child, CHARLEK, appears, holding a ball, which is also not relevant. CHARLEK: Just last week, I was sick. My mom tried to give me MEDICINE. So I'm all "What was that BIG TALK about not wanting to CHANGE me?!" BARBO: EXACTLY, dude!!

A couple walks down the street, the man in a turban, the woman in a very high-collared fur coat. This is ASHWAY and BERTREX A: You know that origami flower shop we keep talking about maybe one day wandering through? A: I finally had an occasion for which I would have liked some paper flowers. But they’ve closed! B: That’s a shame, they just opened like five years ago! B: I wonder how much of our community is powered by people imprudently opening wildly unprofitable businesses, pouring their time and savings into them for the period of exactly one commercial lease, then letting them close. B: Like, it didn’t turn out to be sustainable, but for a while, you offered some cool origami classes for kids, and some people in the neighborhood have some paper flowers in their homes now? I assume? B: Sorry it didn’t make you a millionaire, but you shoved the big stone wheel back uphill a few turns, and that helped us all. A: And, in this metaphor, the big stone wheel is... B: The thing that’ll smash us all into dust with its uncaring inertia if we don’t hold it at bay with our collective effort, yeah A: Okay, cool. And our collective effort, in this context, means buying forty-dollar paper flowers? B: Is THAT how much they cost? B: I kept meaning to look in the store window when I walked by, but I never managed to tear my eyes away from my phone.

(Sitting next to him is Wondermark's supervillain character, Herr Doktor.) An audience member, Auddy, takes the mic to address the panel. AUDDY: Not a question, more of a COMMENT... Your discussion about apples reminded me of the time I attended a CIDER-BATHING CAMP in-- DOKTOR (cutting him off): WAIT wait wait wait wait wait wait wait HOLD up DOKTOR: THIS is time during which there are to be QUESTIONS and those questions are to be ANSWERED. If YOU wish to make a statement, then I, ze other party in this exchange, must provide ze QUESTION! These are ze RULES! DOKTOR: HERE IS MY QUESTION FOR YOU! You heard Alegg announce "Now is ze time for questions" and interpreted that to MEAN "This is my chance to waste everyone's time by sharing my irrelevant opinion"! You have NO RIGHT to call me an idiot! Do you KNOW me? Do you live inside this skull with me? Bandman continues to pace, agitated. BANDMAN: You're just GUESSING! In this Wondermark comic, SCRUNCHIN is slumped in a folding chair, while his good friend BORNDOGH looks on, clutching a cane. S: Weird how when your MEAT feels bad, YOU feel bad. Do I have this headache BECAUSE I have indigestion? Or are my GUTS nauseous because I'm mentally stressed out? S (gesturing to his head): The meat parts are all making EACH OTHER grumpy. It's a vicious cycle! And it's not JUST the meats! There's the SPARKY BITS up here too! THEY got their OWN problems! SPARKS are interacting with FATS and I can't make heads or tails of it! S: And what about all the JUICES and GOOPS in there? B: If you got too much of one goop and not enough of another, WATCH OUT. S: My GOOPS are askew! They're oozing and splashing and getting all in each other's business! And somehow that is making ME, the real human boy at the center of it all, MISERABLE. What a racket! ARON and BEREN continue to discuss their theories about Star Wars. B: Okay, so. We know Obi-Wan, the brilliant general, had the bright idea to hide Luke from Vader on Vader's ACTUAL home planet with Vader's ACTUAL relatives. Giving him Vader's ACTUAL last name. A: Which is a bit like the witness protection program hiding you at your grandma's house B: While he and Yoda figured this whole "Empire" problem would WHAT? SOLVE ITSELF if they let it gain inertia for twenty years? B: But what we ALSO learned from the prequels is that those brown robes he wore? APPARENTLY THE STANDARD JEDI OUTFIT. So he went into hiding...and then STAYED IN UNIFORM the whole time. A: Here's a better explanation: He didn't wear Jedi robes on Tatooine... He wore TATOOINE ROBES while a JEDI. A: THINK about it. He visits Tatooine as a padawan. It's so SAVAGE and EXOTIC. He ADOPTS the aesthetic like a CORUSCANT HIPSTER. A: Then, when he has to go into hiding, of COURSE he gives some flimsy excuse why Luke will be better off with these STEP-STRANGERS he's not even ACTUALLY related to! It lets him indulge his Tatooine fetish full-time! B: Obi-Wan is a TATOOINE OTAKU! He'd probably have taken a Sand Person WIFE if he could've found one SUBMISSIVE enough! Overhearing this conversation is CAREN. This is now too much; she speaks up. C: YOU TWO. Come ON. C: Mace Windu and Qui-Gon wore the SAME robes. B: Yeah, well, probably LOTS of people wore 'em before they figured out how racist it was

Wondermark #1187; It was a Long Time Ago
Two people, ARON and BEREN, are talking about Star Wars. ARON: Way I figure it, the ORIGINAL trilogy "really happened." Maybe sensationalized by the media somewhat, but basically an account of actual events. A: The PREQUEL trilogy is an entertainment product FROM that universe, bearing as much relation to the actual rise and fall of Vader and the Empire as does DISNEY'S POCAHONTAS to the events IT attempts to portray.
