Also, paralysis. I am going to repeat myself: this is a website full of neurotics. Individually we have a far above average risk of anxiety, depression and other mental disorder. Collectively we have maladaptive response patterns. Doomerism *feels* like motivation, but it in practice is not.
Bouie keeps getting slammed for these sensible and sober minded Takes because there are people who've come to see anything short of maximal Doomerism as somehow complacency - you're saying I *shouldn't* feel maximally bad!??? Yet it is obvious on reflection that maximal doomerism breeds complacency.
There are places where Trump, as president, has broad freedom of action. And there are places where Trump, as president, has been able to act unilaterally because the main point of opposition, Congress (and SCOTUS), support his program. (1/?)

This post is very real. And what's even creepier is he's a big Gavin Newsom stan, for those of you ready to anoint Newsom the savior of the Democratic Party.

His feed is filled with pro Newsom videos. He loves the fucking guy.
Guys I think America has a far-right problem

You know, regardless of if it's ICE or trans rights.. the details don't _entirely_ matter for you to see that he's a leader who can somehow get bullied out of the correct position by Ben Shapiro in 2 minutes.

That's the opposite of what we need.

The one totally meaningless thing that would completely rule would be if the pope excommunicated jd Vance. Low stakes, would change nothing, but would provoke a lot of really funny reactions from people I universally hate. It would be really great. He should do it.

An underrated factor in "why don't people in wealthy societies have more kids" is changing societal norms that now expect even older kids to be chaperoned by an adult any time they are in public, and to be chauffeured by a parent as their only means of transportation
Older generations spent a lot less time parenting. Millennial dads spend nearly as much time parenting as Boomer moms did. Millennial and Gen X moms way more.

elected democrats who want their constituents to remain non-violent in their protests of these abuses must actually offer a path for ending the abuses non-violently. they currently are not as a party and it’s a major problem.
🚨WHOA. The El Paso Medical Examiner says it will rule the death of a 55-year-old Cuban man at ICE's "Camp East Montana" tent camp as a homicide.

He was allegedly choked to death by a guard during a "struggle" after he refused to enter a housing unit without his medications.

This seems like a maliciously put headline to make people feel a certain way.

Wikipedia is not partaking in generative AI. They are making AI companies and scrappers having to pay for training their modules off wikipedia texts. And having an AI (not that ai) tasked with updating dead links.

I'm not in the position where my call means anything, so discount appropriately, but I think my fairest analysis is: "Miller and Trump are using all the ICE/DHS they can afford to try and 'get a win', and beyond DHS budget and invoking the Insurrection Act, they don't have a lot of resources left"

The words "Minnesota" or "ICE" don't appear anywhere here.

ICE keeps saying the people protesting it are being paid without any evidence, but we have receipts showing that the people *defending* ICE are absolutely being paid.

And yet we only hear lies about the former on cable news.

I have deep rural roots and I am also so fucking tired of it. My urban American life and family and friends are real. And of course the worst offenders of this fraud about where real America reside are the press.
I feel pretty misunderstood by people living in rural areas, and yet mysteriously, this isn’t considered a problem.

I’m sick of putting up with this idiotic display of obeisance to chucklefucks simply because they live in rural areas.
Republicans control all 3 branches of government. Even when they don't, both parties pump out constant rhetoric about "real Americans" living in rural areas.

The entire premise of this article is a conservative-fluffing myth. Cities have more political power because that's where most people live!

The deck is stacked in about 10 different ways to give extra power and money to rural areas, but it's never enough. Right wing propaganda continues to tell them they are out upon victims powerless against the mighty cities.
Stage 5 pundit-brain is watching an innocent woman being killed by agents of the state and going, "hmm this says a lot about the urban-rural divide in America."

the question to ask about this is, okay, he wants to cancel the midterms. how does he get the VA state board of elections to cancel the midterms? how does he get the georgia board of elections to do it? how does he convince republican house members to quit their jobs and give up their paychecks?
Trump says a lot of deranged shit, but, per this Reuters article — and the threats of invoking the Insurrection Act in Minnesota this morning — he is very clearly exploring how to cancel the midterms.
