I stand with County Executive Calvin Ball as he signs emergency legislation today prohibiting privately owned buildings from being used as ICE detention centers.

Howard County chose dignity, accountability, and its people. Tune into our event now:

Democratizing the arts looks like universal income, low-barrier grants for both emerging and working artists, well-funded municipal arts & recreation programs, vibrant third spaces, and a well-funded public school system with progressive curriculum.

Not a free pass for corporate-owned slop engines.
Every instance of "AI democratizes the arts, you're classist and ableist and a gatekeeper for trying to stop it" is a slap in the face to the literally centuries of poor, disabled people making art on the margins and a crass lie in service of a machine that strips down and regurgitates dreams

American workers just took home their smallest share of the nation's wealth since 1947 — even as corporate profits soar.

Why? This chart has the answer.

People taking care of people is about the only thing keeping me going right now.

Help where you can.

Share good news when you can.

Keep believing we are stronger together. 💚

We will not let evil win.
Don’t just read the headline. Read the story. We all need to breathe in as much goodness and hope in humanity as we can to offset the worst of the worst we’re being flooded with and intentionally so.

I was not following but this was a good reminder to block bc fuck that guy
Whole lot of you following Neil Gaiman, and I assume it's because you forgot you did so and he stopped posting when it was revealed he is a rapist.

Since he's trying to make a return, do yourself a favour and check if you're following @neilhimself.neilgaiman.com and if so unfollow and block.

Neil Gaiman is attempting a comeback? Can't call it a redemption tour because he still claims he's innocent. Did he choose now - when another tranche of the Epstein emails is out - because he thinks he looks innocent if his victims were adults not kids? Nah. Fuck that guy.

This is a very good point, one which all of us need to internalize.

It's not a joke.
It's not worth being taken seriously.
We don't have cred.
Sometimes white people try to be sarcastically racist & it's like huh? It really doesn't come off as parody. They think they have cred from previously not being racist that folks would be sure they don't mean it. That's not so, they're white. Don't be sarcastically racist because we sure can't tell.

But sure, girls are at the top of Joanne's priority list 🙄

She is using her transphobia to *hurt* girls and women, but it helps gain her eyeballs and influence. Just like currying favor with known pedophiles.

Don't let her get away with it.

Don't support *any* of her work.

All she wants is money

We already have a warrant requirement. It's called the US Constitution. If that's not fucking binding them, what the hell does your little agreement mean?
Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said the party agreed on three main goals:

° Require warrants in some cases and ICE coordination with state and local law enforcement

° Create a code of conduct and enforce it

° Require agents to wear body cams and not masks
Democrats demand new ICE restrictions as government shutdown looms
After federal agents shot and killed Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, Senate Democrats say they’ll block a massive government funding package without policy changes.

Here's a super smart guy with some potentially money & lifesaving advice. Takes just a few minutes to do a quick visual inspection, if you're in the nation's deep freeze right now 💚
Hey #uglydogs circle up real quick.

All y'all with high efficiency gas (LP or natural gas) heat raise a paw.

For those who don't know go look at your furnace. If it has 2"-4" PVC pipe coming out of it and going outside it is 90%+ or high efficiency system.

Alright, let's go outside...

There's no ICE accountability without ending qualified immunity.

They're murdering people. There won't be justice for the lives they've stolen, but there must be accountability.

My bill with @markey.senate.gov would ensure families can sue the agents murdering their loved ones.

I do the same! MG has so much to recommend, so many great stories...and for most adults they are still relatively short reads.

(Grownups, read with your kids! For all the reasons! 💚📚)

This is on my TBR because I can't get a turn with our copy 😹
I often tell adult readers complaining about being in a reading slump that the answer to their problem is a great middle grade book. This book, which was my personal pick for the Newberry medal, is perfect. I think a lot of adult readers would really enjoy it. It's so beautiful.

I run my own book fairs. But that's 100% of my library funding, unless I write grants on my personal time. (And I do mean 100% - books, processing materials, and anything else I need!)
For the last 10 or so years I was in my elementary media center (2000–2010), I received no budget to buy books from the state. (Rather, that funding went for technology.) The PTO funded my budget through book fairs.

If your kid has crayons, thank their teacher 🙃
It was an ugly wake-up call for me, the dad of a new Kindergartener, to realize that the public school system has basically been completely abandoned by both parties since before my own time in it, and all of the "non-essential" stuff is provided entirely by donations and volunteer labor
This is because our elected officials haven't been helping with any of our institutions for years except the military and law enforcement. Schools, libraries and other public services have been held together by immense amounts of volunteer labor and community funding.

I feel a little left out, tbh.

And the snow that I could normally go visit...all got rained on this year. A little concerning for our water year in CA 😬 We rely on our snow pack.
People with no snow outside, what's that like.

As someone on day 13 of a migraine, I would much rather suffer whistles all day long than let a single member of my community get snatched off the streets.

Some things we can heal from. Some things, we cannot. 💚
There are people trying to stop others from using whistles, and next they'll say it's ableism.

As your disability advocate friend, I will be the first with serious sensory sensitivity to say that I would rather be in pain than someone get abducted, or shot.

Block/mute this argument, it's an op.
