Let's see in a couple of months if I'm right about this: nothing will come of this other than a change in the faces of Venezuelan leadership because the White House lacks the capacity to plan for occupation, if they even have the appetite.

Parties in multi-party European systems pretend to power by claiming to represent the "average" person, leading to totalitarianism. Not sure that's convincing.

My explanation for Cuomo has been that it's surprisingly difficult to find quality individuals to run for elected office, at least for anything less rarified and prestigious than US Senator. But this theory has merit too.
Most of the derangement about Mamdani is for the obvious reasons but part of it is also that a surprising amount of people were committed to the Cuomo rehabilitation project because they hated the idea that anything could have consequences for men of the right class.
