I think the 90% of the BBC that isn't news and current affairs has real value, does things that can't or won't be done by a normal media company, and we'll miss it when it's gone.
But the news and current affairs are bad enough in every way that I can't actually justify defending it overall.

Describe how a demographic that everyone in power ignores in favor of going to literal hate groups with explicit mission statements to eradicate us are supposed to do that. We're the least wealthy and most vulnerable segment of any overlapping demographic and we're alone against billionaires.

These technologies can and are being used to create lifelike images and videos of actual living women and girls. For what I think are pretty obvious gendered civil rights reasons, it needs to be a recognized civil cause of action to create an AI image or avatar of a woman without her consent.

We just had an incident in NZ where several newspapers published the top 10 NZ books for kids and 5 of them didn’t exist - the papers lifted the list straight from a press release from the so-called World Literacy Foundation

Yeah. A lot of writers seem to think they're playing Just A Minute, and the buzzer goes off if they say the same word twice.
Every word has to be there intentionally, weighed or at least eyeballed as it's chosen.
But repetition can be poetry and/or clarity.

We were doing writing tips the other day, right? Just thought of a good one -- stop it with the fucking synonyms. If you're writing about, say, Paul McCartney, you can just say "McCartney" every time, not "the ex-Beatle", "the former Wings frontman", "the left-handed bassist" etc.
