Looking at the post-WW2 world and diagnosing the problem as 'shame American didn't build an empire' is like complaining the Pacific Ocean should try being wet and salty.

Let's follow this to its logical conclusion and say it's (a) not a product it's an individual called Grok, (b) competent to stand trial.
1. Headlines everywhere today read "Grok apologizes."

This is bullshit. A chatbot is not something that can apologize.

Pretending otherwise is simple laundering these companies' bullshit about what AI is, while diffusing blame away from the human beings that developed and released this system.

Any campaign to regulate AI generated sexually explicit material will need to patiently educate lawmakers that the datasets use images of real people, without their consent or knowledge.
For sexually explicit images, there is a legal duty to remove them. Many images which violate the spirit of the current law may only be on the borderline, though some of the images created will clearly breach it. Urgent intervention needed by government & regulators

There are far fewer 'political debates' than we think. The debate is 'do we think Party A's long held position is working or should we try Party B's long held position instead for a bit?' or 'Jesus, the answer is C, why can't we vote for that?'.
Politics is the process of building, consolidating, and wielding power in service to one's worldview. It should be treated as a knife fight to the death.

Wow, if just two or three details here were different, this might be newsworthy.
Zohran Mamdani, the first Muslim New York City mayor, will also be the first mayor to use the Quran at his swearing in. For his ceremony at City Hall, he will use his grandfather’s and at least one other family Quran.
Mamdani Will Be First N.Y.C. Mayor to Use the Quran at His Swearing-In
Zohran Mamdani, New York City’s first Muslim mayor, will use two family Qurans and one that belonged to the writer Arturo Schomburg at his two swearing-in ceremonies.

I’m not great at self promotion. But I will promote this—bc it lifts all the boats, supports writers, connects readers, provides a safe space for #LGBTQ and #disability and #neurodiversity. We are supported in two ways: by members (as little as $5 a month) and failing that, by me.😱 Your aid matters.
It’s been a rough 2025. I had cancer, chemo, forced menopause, 2 books launched into the screaming void of a political regime.(feels like 25 years since inauguration?) We fight on through mutual aid, so today, I promote PBC. We support authors, readers, #science, social justice, #LGBTQ, each other.

The Constitution states that if a VP takes over with less than two years of the term remaining, the VP can run again *twice*. Two years + two full terms. If Trump leaves office in 2026, Vance can only run *once*.

Teachers, academics, are not automatically dismissive of the idea AI might have a role in the classroom, they're dismissive because they're on the front line and see it's the laziest, least curious, disengaged, dopiest students who use it, to avoid work not enhance it.

Yeah. A lot of writers seem to think they're playing Just A Minute, and the buzzer goes off if they say the same word twice.

Every word has to be there intentionally, weighed or at least eyeballed as it's chosen.

But repetition can be poetry and/or clarity.
We were doing writing tips the other day, right? Just thought of a good one -- stop it with the fucking synonyms. If you're writing about, say, Paul McCartney, you can just say "McCartney" every time, not "the ex-Beatle", "the former Wings frontman", "the left-handed bassist" etc.
