The value of reading history is you know that in 1860 there were abolitionists who were so demoralized that they thought chattel slavery would be permanent. 5 years later those still alive had lived to see its end.

Shout out to everyone completely demoralized about the state of the world who still manages to get out of bed each morning.

And shout out to you, too if you’re still in bed. This shit is hard. Talk to your friends and neighbors. They’re going though it too, which is both terrifying and comforting.

Neutrality and objectivity are not the same thing and are, in fact, often contradictory goals. The objective truth is often not neutral in its political implications, and it would be a useless exercise if it was.
Got turned down on a piece about ICE in Chicago for an international news org because they believed I couldn’t be objective about my neighbors getting kidnapped. And well, guilty as charged I guess.

Watching more people discover this infuriating fact and getting righteously furious about it is at least good reinforcement that we are correct to be righteously furious about it

Editing an article tangential to the shutdown.
A presumed copy-paste error has resulted in Those Eight Democrats being called "moderate Republican Democrats," and, well.

This is right. Democratic politicians complain about “circular firing squads” or “getting rid of litmus tests” because they don’t want to be held to account for their idiocy, corruption, and cowardice
I extend this grace to people who are doing the work.

To Senators? Fuck no, and fuck you.
But there are real dangers out there that must be fought; and energy spent fighting each other is energy lost to that bigger fight.

Scraped my car on someone's jeep today, parallel parking. Did not leave a note, because their bumper was evidently *designed* to scratch any enemies and walk away unscathed. It had some of my paint on it like a knife scraped over butter, but no actual damage.

Apparently the reason my sourdough recipe has turned out only "okay" bread despite tweaks is that bad record keeping and a game of telephone apparently gave me a recipe that was backward and so weird it screwed up my sense of what was correct. 1/4

In a normal democracy, a total collapse of party leadership would result in an no-confidence vote and immediate snap elections to find leaders who can lead

agreeing to make a terrible deal while your main opponent is quite literally being boo'd on live tv by an entire stadium of people is the kind of political instinct you'd normally only find in a 3 week old dead goldfish

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

I misinterpreted a bit of LeggyDog's history and it's not a big deal, but apparently this is her first cold winter. She stands at the dog door waiting for me to let her out, like it would be warmer that way.

Changed the filters on our corsi-rosenthal box. We have some window screen on them as a pre-screen so we don't see their color much. They were definitely ready to be changed.

Both parties actively endorsed Andrew Cuomo and he STILL couldn't beat a vocally pro-Palestine, pro-trans, socialist, Muslim immigrant. The vindication I feel IS a part of that obvs coz I'm a petty little cunt. But I mostly feel intense joy and relief that another way has been shown to be possible.

Today's LeggyDog nonsense: why are my leggings in the kitchen? Why are they wet?
(I left a treat in my pocket. They were inside out, so she chewed through the inside of the pocket to get it.

The world would be immensely better if more religions and their believers had even a tenth of the dedication the Sikhs do to doing good for people with no gatekeeping or expectations of anything other than "you are a fellow human in need and we can help you"
Folks, if you are hungry, please contact your local Sikh gurdwara. Or just show up for langar, which most gurdwaras do several times a week, for a free meal. Lots also do weekly or monthly drives giving out groceries.

No conversion necessary. Feeding anyone who is hungry is a key part of Sikhism.
A lady on TikTok has been calling churches pretending to be a mother with a baby who needs formula and several churches turned her away. But wouldn’t you know that when she called a Mosque (Islamic Center of Charlotte) they immediately said yes.
