I think school gives us unrealistic expectation of friendships. you spend years with the same people and it creates the illusion that is how life works - but in adults people come and go as life shifts, but since that wasn’t what we grew up with, it can hurt more than it should.

I took myself on a date last night.

The answer, by the way, is you just nicely ask, and he's totally reasonable and you were getting up in your head over nothing because you’re a trans woman and asserting even a tiny need is viscerally terrifying.
How do you gently say to someone “I know you’re trying to help, but successfully organizing Commander Night is a load bearing pillar of my mental health and you taking over when I had it handled makes me feel useless and superfluous, and I really need this right now, so please fucking Don’t?"

I'm off my ADHD meds for a couple of days to reset my tolerance, and I do not think I was adequately prepared for re-losing executive function. I'm at the point where I am hoping I can make it back to bed.
