The welfare state is about dignity, equality, and making people not poor, but as @itsafronomics.bsky.social says/cites here, it’s often also an investment that more than pays for itself
Why should you 🫵🏿 care about SNAP? SNAP recipients saw:

- Improved life expectancy
- Lower chance of incarceration
- Lowers chance of poverty
- Lived in better neighborhoods
- Higher human capital

SNAP keeps our neighbors fed, communities safer, and kids educated. Also people are HUNGRY. DUH!

Fun fact: Doctor Oz, Administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, close friend of Trump and RFK Jr., and self-admitted fraudulent supplement huckster, sells multiple forms of leucovorin through his supplement company, iHerb, which he didn’t divest when taking his federal gov role.
Anyway watch the stocks of whoever has the patent of leucovorin go up after the announcement. That’s all this is. Promoting Leucovorin so adults force their kids to ingest it to “cure their autism”.

But what is Leucovorin and why are they claiming it cures autism? 👇
Why would any foreign country invest in a nation that did this?

Honey and analgesia

2 - 3 doses daily of oral honey/placebo in children post-tonsillectomy for 7 days, in addition to regular paracetamol, ibuprofen & as required oxycodone did not result in a clinical improvement in pain or recovery over a 14-day follow-up period.

I'm begging everyone who hasn't yet to read this book. The premise, about a man living in an infinite house, is terrifically inventive, and it goes in a direction you don't expect. No other living author writes with such a keen sense of horror & beauty. The book of the decade.

Sublime 👌😘

Context matters, my friend. There are no absolutes in medicine

As I tell trainees “Propofol fixes everything in paediatric anaesthesia, apart from hypotension” so an ‘emergency Propofol’ for all lists. Dilute adrenaline (10mcg/ml) for high-risk emergency cases (sick neonates, significant URTI, likely to brady..)

Systematic reviews are just as flawed as any other body of research if not more so.

A gold-standard systematic review may be the best source of evidence on a topic matter, but a bad one can be INCREDIBLY misleading.
