Firm creates a society of AIs...on specialists v. generalists, norms, paperclips, and AIs that want to do their own thing.

"I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission. And I want to help you."
1000 AIs were let loose to build their own village and society in Minecraft, reports @tomhowarth.bsky.social.

An interesting experience that does raise some questions:

Fonzie, on the water skis.

At this rate SNL will never be able to keep up.

It is just more repetitive here. Over and over.

Worse, I go over the "Discover" feed and it's the exact same skeets as my follow thread...

Like the skeet I am replying to now...

I remember a conversation in my department back at Cornell about who might be best to suggest as the new dean. Who had the best vision for the college, people asked.

My reply was that I wasn't worried so much about the new dean's vision as much as I would be about their hearing.
The true leader in a group is rarely the person who talks the most. It's usually the person who listens best.

Listening is more than hearing what’s said. It’s noticing and surfacing what isn’t said.

Inviting dissenting views and amplifying quiet voices are acts of leadership.

We need not repeat the words of the mentally ill. We treat them with compassion. They need not be President.

We can note and celebrate the best in human nature. How we respond to tragedy is the means by which we discover ourselves.

The movies, of course, are deservingly considered classics. But I will always think first of "All in the Family." There was American culture before and there was American culture after.

RIP. My thoughts to their family.

I think when he said, “The government should pay people to dig holes in the ground and then fill them up," this was not what John Maynard Keynes had in mind.
