ok uh. uh. for now i don't have the energy to try Dividing stuff with lists or different accounts for the interacting with respectable professionals, the gayming liveblogging, the anime spamming, and the insane NSFW worms, so we'll SEE how long that lasts. not sorry (yet?)

You need the third category...Nintendo.
To heal our divided nation I propose splitting Game of the Year awards into two categories:

- Game of the Year That’s 3D and You Use a Sword and/or Gun to Explode a Guy
- Game of the Year That’s Some Gay Bullshit Indie Meditation on Grief or Whatever

Also, I got treated to playing Zhenya's Wonder Tales at BBC2024, before it crowdfunded. Re. @itsquinns.bsky.social's question about whether your character can have sexual relations with a bear: I played a woman who found out her husband cheated on her when his mistress gave birth to a cub. A++++

I like how they were often depicted as a bird with dense six heads on one neck (rather than separated six long necks) in the 16-18th century.

Guys a frozen Iguana warning was issued for Tuesday for Florida.

But don't worry.

It's just lizard rain.

Frozen iguanas are falling from trees in Florida – here's why you don't need to worry
Cold temperatures have hit Florida, and that means frozen iguanas start falling out of trees. This year, they’re a major nuisance.

To earn out your $50,000 advance in a year, you'd have to sell roughly 22,000 copies at the numbers above, if my math is correct (always an if with me!) This would be, again, not superstar numbers, but better than most of your writer friends. 9/

This is an excellent summary of how "the author getting paid" works for traditional publishing! To which I'll add: it is super common for books (especially genre fiction) to not "earn out" the advance, so a lot of writers learn to not count on royalty money ever happening.
I'm going to do a little thread on how the money from books works for traditionally published authors because people have questions, and this is always useful info to share IMO. First, a big disclaimer that every contract is different, and there are a million factors that can change things. 1/

three people buying a book we didn't really have on our radar at my old bookstore was instant "order more, face it out, somebody on staff read it and write a talker for it" territory
I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

I always say that how good you are gives you modifiers to the roll and how hard you work affects how many throws you get, but at the end of the day its just a roll of the dice, and its always long odds. And the scary thing is you gotta keep rolling them for your whole career.
Some close friends to be get a little frustrated in my tendency to priortise luck in my own career, as they know how I work. I try to explain that work just is buying a lottery ticket. It's necessary, but certainly not sufficient. I know many folks who've worked as hard but the dice have been cruel.
