Not to be the stoned gal in your dorm room at 2 am, but like, what even is a "choice," man?
February 19, 2026 at 5:05 PM
"Is being queer a choice?" discourse is going around again and again I feel like people are asking unanswerable questions about the nature of human subjectivity and acting like there are tidy political answers.

As one of the youtube commenters wrote, Bills don't pay themselves.

Sorry to be a sour Susan but sometimes it be like that.

Trying to tell other writers that you should respect the audience's intelligence while knowing in my heart that this is not something you will ever be rewarded for.

That is definitely the canonical version!

The second worse pop song to commercial jingle is the Outback version of Wraith Pinned to the Mist, which is a true abomination, but Crumbelievable is worse because they take out the "Oh!" which is the main draw of the song.
February 19, 2026 at 3:43 PM
Are there people who experience this with Crumbelievable? Like, they are unaware of Unbelievable by EMF and just know the terrible commercial (which is the worst pop song to commercial jingle ever)?
February 19, 2026 at 3:43 PM
Also, this is a terrible song and I hope I never hear it again even once more in both this life and in any future reincarnations I might experience.
February 19, 2026 at 3:36 PM
The Glade Plug-Ins song was a real song before the commercials? Wtf? Is this something we knew? I would've told you that was the most jingle-ass jingle ever written.

Prince Andrew in a can. Is that anything?

Remember when we weren't allowed to drink milk because we were too fat so we had to eat cereal dry for like six years? The 90s, am I right?

This cabbage is unlocking some Proust madeleine shit for me right now.
February 18, 2026 at 9:58 PM
Remember rice cakes? Remember when we were eight years old and our moms all put us on a diet of rice cakes because they said we were too fat because we weighed more than a teen figure skater she saw on TV? What a time.

*Other Black people*: "Ha ha, white people don't season their food!"

*Me, a single tear running down my cheek as a recall the saltless years, the NoSalt years, the gimmick diets, and the general lack of flavor that defined my childhood.*: "Yes. White people. Ha ha."

It turns out when you lightly blanche and season cabbage instead of boiling it to mush and not adding any salt it is very good actually
February 18, 2026 at 9:52 PM
I thought I didn't like so many foods but then it turned out my parents were just terrible at cooking.

It's also probably my favorite era of American literature but I have to give a ton of disclaimers and warnings when I recommend that stuff.
February 18, 2026 at 8:53 PM
Like if someone says this about 15-20 years, they usually have beef with the depiction of race, gender, sexuality, sexual assault, and other problematic stuff or with the lack of representation, but 1975 is dead in the center of the 70s, imo American literature's most unwoke era.
February 18, 2026 at 8:47 PM
This attitude is silly on its face, but like, 50 years? 1975? That's your line? It honestly makes more sense to me when people say this kind of thing but limit it to 15 or 20 years, 'cause at least then you get a sense of a coherent ideological project.
Meanwhile, on threads, which actually is like what people on twitter think bluesky is like, a "teacher, author, poet" speaks...

Saw an old-fashioned "women should date men who are nice to them" type MRA in the wild, like spotting an ancient beast from times long past skulking in the mist.

The upside of being a dramatic person is that a life filled with conflict and struggle is, in fact, good actually.
