FWIW my undergrad Egyptology prof tried to get me to leave the field, gaslit me all the time... turns out he was fucking another undergraduate and didn't get suspended for it till years later... he hated me because I knew about the affair. He still works there. He ruined countless careers of women.

For NASA funding, there has been a prohibition on "bilateral collaboration with China" for over 15 years. It is occasionally a PITA but positively benign by comparison to this. Do not let anyone tell you that we already do this and it is fine. This is absurd.
“The prohibited activities would include joint research, co-authorship on papers, and advising a foreign graduate student or postdoctoral fellow. The language is retroactive, meaning any interactions during the previous 5 years could make a scientist ineligible for future federal funding.”

The flock has 17 turkeys right now, out for a browse together. Today they mostly traveled in a line, so I couldn't get all in one video still but I could get an accurate count. Rewiliding this yard continues to have lots of benefits for wildlife diversity.

Earlier this year, OPB joined a group of young Indigenous kayakers paddling down the Klamath River, flowing freely after four dams were removed. The "Oregon Field Guide" team captured that multi-day journey in a newly released documentary.
OPB documentary “First Descent: Kayaking the Klamath” follows Indigenous kayakers on a historic journey after dam removal
Participants say the journey was about much more than just kayaking. The paddlers are honoring more than a century that their ancestors spent fighting against dams on the Klamath and advocating for a healthy river.

The thing that always made me *furious* about Lawrence Krauss and people like him is that the job of a professor is to shape minds. They are black holes and while some of their students and postdocs can survive in the accretion disc, others get caught in the river, and many get jetted away.

A good day, indeed, for #NHPolitics.

Cordelli was a driving force on the book ban bill last session, among other things.

A lot of gross has left the building.
And in NH Cordelli has turned in his resignation to the NH House of Representatives.

An action that is pretty damn close to champagne worthy.

Right, the answer isn't to abandon the party to these weasels.

The answer is to flood the party with people who will take it over and transform it.
Hey, a lot of people are talking about changing affiliation from Democratic to Independent.

Let me tell you why you shouldn’t do that in Colorado.

One of the main ways to get a primary challenge candidate on a ballot is to caucus for your party. You need to be registered as a Dem to caucus.

Shaheen and Hassan (along with King) "negotiated the deal... The deal would not include an extension of the expiring enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies."

Does includes nearly $1bn in funding to enhance security measures and protection for members of Congress plus US Capitol Police. (CNN)
If you have a Dem senator and you're seeing this right now, CALL THEM RIGHT NOW and tell them NO. If you don't know anyone who would be affected by this, call them for my friend Lisa. She cannot afford insurance without ACA subsidies and without health insurance I'm terrified she will die.
! A key group of Senate Democrats is leaning toward voting for a deal to end the shutdown, provided final details can be worked out like worker protections (Gift link)

(Deal does NOT include an ACA extension.)

This is the correct explanation of what happened tonight👇
KBJ threaded the needle thanks to CA1’s unfinished business.

-if she denied the admin stay, the full SCOTUS woulda stepped in to override her.
-if she immediately referred the case to the full Court, they coulda dragged feet.
-instead she boxed them in to act quickly once she does refer the case.

Most folks that my mom worked with on "fowl plague" in 2009 have retired, burned out, or been laid off. In the past 15 years, some of their work bore fruit, like non-egg-based vaccines. Surveillance and response takes trained bodies in communities, which have been drastically cut this year.
