Seattle has had a series of mayors who got elected promising to “finally” use police to crack down on homelessness — the existing policy that every previous mayor has deployed.
Once they get into office they don’t deliver because it doesn’t work. We waste four years and the problem gets worse.

The story about the gun got buried, virtually nobody in any position of influence talked about it. The more significant element of this was money. The business class within Seattle really liked his harsh-crackdowns-on-unhoused-people policy, and they put a lot of resources behind his campaign.

A convicted felon who had also been found liable for sexual assault and committed additional crimes in plain sight was close with a notorious child sex trafficker and likely participated in some of those crimes too got elected with much of that known and spent his presidency railing against “crime.”

im always amused by these stories because you can go to these guys' social media profiles and see a good portion of that 996 is spent fucking around online. because that's the thing, real "knowledge work" isn't something can be done 70+ hours per week sustainably
Hard to believe that a few years ago there was genuine mainstream discourse about tech companies shifting to 4-day work weeks while today companies are bragging about “AI productivity gains” yet it’s all about 996.

cool of her to acknowledge my dumb 25 year old computer guy ass was right all along about everything I'm sure this will lead to much self reflection next time the center gets all intransigent about left wing policy preferences
It's a welcome development that she feels compelled to say that the administration she served in should have done more and that she admits that there were levers that Biden chose not to use, but if she runs again in 2028 she will actually have to articulate a suite of policies on this issue.
