I really dislike this leftie tendency to use all of the horrible crimes this country has committed as proof that the country is irredeemable, when the people who fought against it often did so *as Americans* because it implies they were a bunch of stupid fucking rubes

While it's still MLK Day, I should say something:

A lot of reactionaries will claim that my desire for racial justice is a manifestation of "white guilt", but they're wrong. "Guilt" is not what I feel when I think about this. What I feel when I think about this is apoplectic RAGE.

If you work for ice please understand that your kids will laugh at a character based on you dying in an action movie before the end of the decade. They’ll be in movies for really little kids. Like Phineas and Ferb shit. There will be an action figure of you with a detachable head

America has always been an argument. An argument between a wealthy white few ready to kill or control the rest to seize more money & power and the bravest possible people determined to make the promise of life, liberty & yes happiness apply to all, no exceptions.
On the ground here in Minnesota, it’s hard to reconcile the immense bonds of community that have been built in a week with the fact that we live in a country whose government appropriated billions of dollars to an unaccountable paramilitary force whose sole purpose is ethnic cleansing.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey says 29 people were arrested in downtown last night during a noise demonstration at a hotel reportedly housing ICE agents: "For those that are taking the bait and causing property damage or otherwise, there are consequences. We're holding the line here all the way."

I second this. @slacktivistfred.bsky.social's blog has been an extremely informative thing across the decades now.
I’ve talked this up before, but: @slacktivistfred.bsky.social’s analysis of LEFT BEHIND is one of the most formative and useful things I’ve ever encountered, as a writer

I once told @adamsmith.house.gov to “Just fucking destroy ICE already,” back during the Biden administration.

He chided me for my use of language and said that we can’t insult people just because we happen to disagree with them politically.

I think he failed to see the substance of my objection.
One of the many reasons "Abolish ICE" has been a popular refrain on the left — besides the fact that borders and border security means violence — is that ICE and CBP were always going to be the agencies that would become the SS.

I just wanted to say to anyone I've loved in the past:

Things might not have worked out between us. Goodness knows I wasn't always in the right mind to appreciate what we had. But I'm grateful for the time we got to spend together. My life is better for having had you in it. Thank you for that.

Also illustrates how much teamwork goes into it. It doesn’t matter how twitchy your reflexes or how good a shot you are, your barrel can only point in one direction at a time. If you’re not part of a group that can guard each other’s flanks, you’re dead.
weirdly, playing ARMA (not COD) is really illustrative for a lot of non-mil people in my experience because getting domed by contacts they didn't spot is a completely common thing

but yes, it's hard for people to get this
Not just terrain, but the extent to you really have no idea of what's happening at a given time.

I'll talk to friends who are well-read, and they'll express complete bafflement when I try to explain to them that people firing in a general direction of where they took contact is a normal thing.

At this point, if a Democratic presidential candidate wants my vote, their platform has to - at bare minimum - include some version of "I am going to put all these freaks in prison for their crimes." Full stop. No compromise. I am now a single issue voter for the dark woke prison camps.

Seriously, this does seem to be the logical endpoint a lot of ultra-rich people seem to be reaching towards. They have so much wealth they seem to feel entitled to adoration too. That not liking them or not agreeing with their opinions is somehow morally injuring them.
“it is illegal for you not to like me”
This is the logical and inevitable conclusion of the last decade of elite media "free speech" discourse.

Yeah, this.

A bit of career advice that stuck with me is, “Never be loyal to companies, because as a legal construct they are incapable of reciprocating that loyalty. But do be loyal to people, because people can replay that loyalty in kind.”

Make friends, support them, and they’ll support you.
Just gonna say this again for games sphere cus we get the same question:

Networking doesn't mean schmoozing up to famous people, it means making friends with your peers. Then in 10 years, 20, one of you might be famous? And sure you're still helping each other cus well yeah friends.

Make. Friends.
Talking to one of these types at a con who asked how I 'got in' with so many 'famous writers' who I'd been talking to and I said "we made friends before anyone knew who we were decades ago by striking up interesting conversations and enjoying each other's company" and he kept re-asking the question.

When I explain that I worked on the AI for Age of Empires IV and that we used machine learning in the process, I have to stop and explain, “But not like that,” so, so many times.

It’s infuriating how the grifters have conflated the very real effort I have put in with the slop they push on us.
The confusion and conflation of ‘generative ai that is built on stolen artwork’ and ‘machine learning, character behaviour modelling and proc gen’ is intentional on the part of the grifters peddling the former. They benefit from murkiness of classification, because the latter predates their bollocks
