The insider trading shit is a good angle and I’m glad dems are going with it, because it’s simple enough to be easily comprehensible and just straight up corruption.

this is so stupid. what you get in any Trump takeover scenario, assuming Canada gets representation at all, is the Canadian Independence Party not Dems
“I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I strongly agree with Donald Trump,” said former Representative Steve Israel of New York, who headed the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Canada is largely left of center, and making it the 51st state means more Democrats”. STOP THIS.
Canada as the 51st state? Trump thinks it would be a boon to his legacy. But it would also be a boon to Democrats, who would gain a lot more voters. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/17/u...

Democrats: what you need to all be saying, with a single voice, is "The United States government is in crisis, and our political and economic system may collapse, because Donald Trump is trying to throw out the Constitution and make himself a dictator."

this is exactly it. Vought, Rufo, and Heritage/Claremont are convinced that by destroying the bureaucratic-rational state, they can go back to the republic of their dreams away from wokeness
i don't think there's a grand strategy here.

I think these are all just a bunch of a absolute utter morons so depraved in their cruelty and convinced that if they knock down the load-bearing walls around them, they'll defeat and/or find the secret tunnel to the cathedral or whatever

Seeing a lot of confusion here, feigned or otherwise.

There is nothing to be confused about, friends.

1. Trump and Xi have zero important ideological differences
2. Musk has tens of billions of dollars tied up in the PRC

Those are the only facts you need

Something is broken in our media environment.

A dead squirrel gets more national attention than the systemic destruction of all scientific research in this country, jeopardizing the jobs of millions of Americans and the livelihoods of millions-more students. That's not natural. That's not organic.
Per an NIH source:

“Discussions with colleagues have suggested that if the universities all come together and raise hell about the delays to funding caused by not holding meetings, that might move the needle. From every state. There are well-funded universities in red states that will be impacted.”

Mainstream media hasn’t just gotten captured, they’re now just reprinting press releases without attributing the press releases as if it’s news. Grim

the world they want is one where you're either unemployed or work an almost no wage job, you have almost no political input or self determination and you’re happy about it because you can get a t-shirt off temu for a $1
The plan is to crash the economy to suppress wages.

i mean, the short answer is that they didn't. they just saw that trump had substantially been thwarted during his first term and assumed that that was his default state.

yes, this is basically it. a lot of people just imagined Trump II as "what if we went back to the pre-COVID times" not "there is a hybrid regime policeman breaking my door down for complaining about the police"
i mean, the short answer is that they didn't. they just saw that trump had substantially been thwarted during his first term and assumed that that was his default state.

I will never stop being mad about how the media has treated the anti-trans movement as a group of ordinary people with legitimate concerns rather than the obvious frothing bigots they are.
ABC White House correspondent just released ANOTHER anti-trans EO expected that we did not cover in our piece this morning:

A federal ban on funding to programs that acknowledge and affirm transgender people.

Branches of government

Congress: the weakest branch, as it can only pass messaging bills, give more power to the other branches, or shut down

President: can do anything, if Republican; otherwise checked by the third branch

Fifth Circuit Court: this is the branch that includes the Supreme Court

so of course we say yes, and we tell our son to reach out to his friend to check on him

so he did

one theoretical issue i take with this is that it is not really *good* housing policy that is benefiting red states. it is a blue state spatial incumbency disadvantage that will wear off over time. on paper, red state housing policy is even worse

At the Eaton Fire (Altadena) fire community meeting, Kathryn Barger (county board of supervisors) says her goals for rebuilding (2000 structures destroyed!) are: no new density, and no changes in property tax assessments (Prop 13 says valuations only increase if a property is sold or redeveloped).
