Apparently bluesky doesn't like underscores?
A very good thread about the charges against Maduro (and wife) with some surprising (to me at least) things like this.
With respect to the admissibility of recordings, seized papers, hard drives, etc., you might be surprised to learn that SCOTUS said in US v. Verdugo-Urquidez (1990) that the 4th Amendment search & seizure protection doesn't apply to foreigners on foreign soil

I’m sorry. I can’t let this Miller bullshit pass.

After WWII “the West,” sometimes relatively quickly, sometimes not until the ‘70s, realized that the writing was on the wall: that they could spend vast sums in blood and treasure trying to defeat anti-colonial movements, and still lose.
Eyes wide open, folks. They're revealing the supervillain plot.

Installing the opposition would be strictly worse: their claim to power is popular support as opposed to the security services. Disaster!

I assume it would go nowhere but if they actually give this guy a trial he absolutely has to insist that the Supreme Court's ruling says *all* presidents must have immunity for even the most blatantly evil and venal of crimes if committed in the performance of their duties. Doesn't it say that?

ALMOST EVERYTHING about penguins is cute.

There is *one exception*: they are champion poop producers. Specifically, they would win the long-distance contest.

Humboldt penguins can propel poop well over twice their own height (picture is unrelated).

Warning: thread contains penguin defecation.

On that last post: I genuinely cannot think of any good-faith reason to bar international adoptions from those 39 countries. Under this new ban, consulates will refuse adoption visas for any baby from Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela, Nigeria, or any of the 39 other countries.

I thought about saving "stolen squalor" to use in a novel featuring someone who grew up comfortably middle-class but claims hardscrabble working-class roots, but then I remembered I'd have to write the whole novel first, so I'm just posting it.

On Friday, FIFA will award its inaugural Peace Prize to some unnamed person at a ceremony in DC. Could be anyone, really.
Donald Trump wants to be recognized as a peacemaker.

His deputies obliged today by putting his name on the headquarters of the U.S. Institute of Peace, an agency that DOGE tried to kill.

The new name — the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace — "adds insult to injury," said a lawyer for USIP staff.
Building gets a new name: The ‘Donald J. Trump’ Institute of Peace
The change comes as Trump’s administration has touted his peace deals and ahead of a signing of a deal between the leaders from Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo this week.
