I thought about why I’ve been pushing back on stolen midterm fears. What’s the harm of worry, even if it doesn’t materialize?

It’s this. The regime has less capacity than it’d like, and tries to make up the difference with bluster. If people act as if it’s true, that grants the regime more power.
don't carry maga's water for them. don't try to work out how there's some secret loophole in the constitution that magically ends democracy. there isn't. that's the whole fucking point you fucking dopes

A libertarian city on the moon for elite perverts? Wait, wait, wait! I've played Bioshock. I know how this ends.
Reality: Mars sucks. No one can live there.

Also reality: the Moon sucks. We can’t live there either.

More reality: Earth is the only place we can thrive.

She could end this today. Instead, she sung its praises in her supplemental budget cover letter.
NEW: Of all the states that voted for Harris over Trump in 2024, there's only one where a Dem governor is overseeing an ICE's 287(g) program:

Massachusetts.

Other blue states have quit, or even outright banned it. My colleague on what's happening: boltsmag.org/massachusett...
Inside ICE’s Only Contract with a Blue State - Bolts
As part of a 287(g) contract between state officials and ICE, Massachusetts continues to release prisoners into deportation—even as state lawmakers look to ban other forms of ICE collaboration.

This is the thing to me, that you can tell that this shit is fake. No one has built a self-sustaining bio-dome that's lasted for more than a year without everyone going insane, and SpaceX isn't even *trying* to do this.
even if i had absolutely no knowledge of elon musk or his history, i would have a lot of questions about someone who claimed they were going to build settlements on the moon within a decade, like, “what experience do you have in doing this on earth?”

This isn't mine, and I can't definitively find the original source. But I love this little bit of wisdom:

"If you're a fifteen-minute walk from a coffee shop, but the server there has to drive an hour to get to work, you don't live in a walkable city. You live in a theme park."
For all the fearmongering about capital flight from New York City, there’s an exodus few want to talk about: working people.

Sky-high rents and outrageous child care costs are already pushing families out of the city they keep running.

That’s what we have to change.

This is like if I, an accountant, said it was no big deal if debits do not equal credits. It’s disqualifying.

also the venn diagram of people mad they can't understand the lyrics and the people who think born in the usa is about how good america is is a circle
my opinion on the Bad Bunny halftime show, and non-English music in general, is that i think a need to “be able to understand the lyrics” displays an embarrassing shallowness of the speaker to appreciate the voice as an instrument & to appreciate music as something other than a lyric delivery system

Trump spoke at the fucking Libertarian Party Convention in 2024!
i am not going to be tut-tutted by an overwhelming majority of libertarians who have spent the entire trump era sitting on their hands, tacitly approving, or enthusiastically approving virtually everything trump has done

It's absolutely an embarrassment that Governor Healey has not taken action to terminate the DOC's 287(g) agreement. She has proposed barring *future* agreements, but there are people being hurt right now.

Speed limiters for cars do not necessarily mean more surveillance

but for the record it is literally inhumane to think a three ton lethal metal box deserves more privacy about its location than a human tapping into a transit system

In 2014, New York City lowered its citywide default speed limit from 30 mph to 25 mph. In the year that followed:

- Traffic fatalities fell by more than 22 percent

- Pedestrian fatalities fell by more than 25 percent

transalt.org/reports-list...
Also, most car crashes occur at intersections, and not because a car was exceeding the speed.

My bet is that even if you made it so no one could speed anywhere, it would only marginally lower traffic fatalities.

The *only* response to this is all the other governors drop out.
Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD) says he was uninvited from a bipartisan White House dinner for governors

"As the nation’s only Black governor, I can’t ignore that being singled out for exclusion from this bipartisan tradition carries an added weight — whether that was the intent or not"

My E-bike has a Government Mandated Speed Limiter (for assistive power) installed and the government can't track my bike or shut it off. The tech is there, it isn't new.
This technology already exists and is widely used. It doesn't involve 'government surveillance' and would not allow ICE or any other government agency to stop individual cars.

Just say you think thousands of kids dying every year is worth it so you can speed!

Analysis: Weeks before he set foot on the stage, Bad Bunny’s halftime performance had already become a media event.

But if you were looking for political commentary, the closest that you got was when he said “God bless America” in English.
Analysis | Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show was expected to provoke. Did it?
The Bad Bunny Super Bowl show nodded to injustices in Puerto Rico but mostly evoked wholesome family values that meshed with the more sentimental commercials.

One thing that gets lost in these discussions is the fact that current speed limits on surface streets are already way TOO HIGH.

Limits set by the 85th %tile rule in which drivers to set their own speed limits, under the extremely misguided superstition that most naturally drive at safe speeds

Bad Bunny's historical advisor is an assistant professor at UW-Madison.

Hell of a flex for your tenure file.
Not at all surprised to learn that Bad Bunny has a historical adviser. His halftime show was a reminder that our history and culture are deeply intertwined with the rest of the western hemisphere. We should think of his performance as part of #America250. #SuperBowl

Pop star Bad Bunny needed a Puerto Rican history scholar. UW–Madison had just the one.
Bad Bunny collaborated with UW–Madison history professor Jorell Meléndez-Badillo on Puerto Rican narratives that accompany the new album “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS.”

So the entire reason they're trying to deport ANYONE/EVERYONE

is because they've set quotas.

These quotas are based on the lies they've told, that there are 'millions' of undocumented people ('illegal aliens')...you know the ones the DNC bring in on magic busses to steal votes.

So yeah.
The government says the people being deported are violent criminals, and they treat them inhumanely. But mostly they are subjecting ordinary people to extraordinary punishments.
