In a small breath of reprieve, the 9th Circuit Court has temporarily blocked a lower court ruling from a conservative judge that would have allowed teachers to forcibly out trans students to their parents.

This case will eventually have national implications.

One of the most incredible shots I've ever gotten, in Yellowstone. This coyote walked over a ridge in the blowing snow and posed for me, with a small grin on its face, the snowfalkes like stars in the background.

The desolation and beauty of life and nature is grounding, and so good for the soul.

And off to Yellowstone to try to get pictures of wildlife in the winter. Zooey got me a dream lens - Sony 5.6-6.3/200-600mm. First wildlife lens ever.

So excited.

Merry Christmas everyone from Zooey and I :)

To the trans and queer readers, know you are all part of a community that looks out for each other and holds space when so few others do.

And I know days like today can be tough.

So please feel free to spend as much time here if you need to get away 💜

Aaaand just finished book 3.5 in the Stormlight Archives.

Dawnshard.

And this one was way better than the other novella in the series, Edgedancer. Rysn may be one of my favorite side characters in The Stormlight Archive.

5 stars.

During Christmas, a time when so many people are spending time with family for the holidays, I always notice that a disproportionate number of service industry workers who are covering those days tend to be queer.

It always makes me a bit sad why this is likely the case.

Woah. Wasn’t expecting that. SCOTUS blocks Chicago national guard deployment.

It never ceases to blow my mind that so many tech, sci-fi, futurism backers ended up swinging so far right. Did they entirely miss the point of the sci-fi novels? That identity, self, personal exploration is something we can nurture and grow? It's like instead they said, "no we like the dystopia."

1. New federal rules were released last week banning gender affirming care for youth at hospitals nationwide.

Those rules don't go into effect until public comment, months from now.

But it appears Sec. Kennedy is using an arcane process to try to implement them immediately.

Our latest story.
HHS Sec. Kennedy Attempts To Stop Trans Youth Care In Hospitals Nationwide—Before New Federal Rules Take Effect
Like many of the Trump regime’s attempted powergrabs, this kind of piecemeal and disheveled rulemaking is enforced at least in part by fear and sheer uncertainty.

*sigh* My kiddo spilled milk on his laptop. I pulled power and hard shut it down and it’s tented over rice. Poor kid was so mad at himself. Hard lessons for everyone. I give it about a 25% chance of survival.

I know I’ve been reading big and weighty books lately but I took a detour from Sanderson to read the same book my son was reading.

Spy School by Stuart’s Gibbs.

Adorable, cute coming of age book and I’m glad he’s sucked up into the series.

A second national anti-trans healthcare bill has passed the US House, a medicaid ban for trans youth. 4 Democrats crossed party lines to vote for it. Henry Cueller (TX), Vincente Gonzalez (TX), Don Davis (NC), and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA). It is not expected to get through the Senate filibuster.

Shockingly, this bill would have failed were it not for the 3 Democrat defections.
Just now, a national trans healthcare felony ban for youth has passed the US House, with 10 year prison terms.

3 Dems crossed party lines to vote to jail providers.

4 GOP crossed party lines to vote against.

It is not expected to pass the Senate, where Dems hold filibuster power.
