They caved in March so they could get a better deal now. They’re caving now so they can get a better deal in some indeterminate future. The better deal is always just beyond their reach, but continuing to cave will get them there. And if you don’t agree with that, you don’t understand Politics,

"His decision is supported by history and law."
"Really? So this has happened before?"
"No."
"So... does the law explicitly say he can do this?"
"No."
"How is it supported?"
"Well, I mean, who's gonna stop him?"

House speaker’s refusal to seat Arizona representative is supported by history and law
House speakers have had the power to determine when the oath is administered, and courts have been reluctant to weigh in on that influence.

Reminded of how Lionel De Rothschild was elected three times in a row to the British Parliament, but was barred from being sworn in because he wouldn't renounce Judaism and swear a Christian oath.
Except, this time, the Christian oath is a MAGA one, I guess. With a new messiah to come with.

The United States does not need to be "molded" into a guarantor of Jewish security.
It ~IS~ the most successful guarantor of Jewish security in this or any time before it. Even at its lowest points, the US has done more for our people than any peer.

Quoted post is dancing around the "Israel as ultimate guarantor of Jewish security" concept, which is a concept that has several obvious problems.
Perhaps we could mold the US into a guarantor of Jewish security, instead!

Because they view themselves as not reigning Trump in for the sake of preventing criminality or for the sake of The Law as written, but instead reigning him in for the sake of "the system working."
And to them, "the system working" = cutting off any and all threats to Republican rule.

When has Zohran Mamdani done anything to officially "recognize" the right of Pakistan to exist?
"I know this because his mom is accused of being an apologist for it."
What even is this argument???

No, it's antisemitic - the reason he gave was that he doesn't recognize the right of any country who treats groups preferentially to exist, but he recognizes many such nations. Take Pakistan (who his mom is accused of being an apologist for): officially Muslims, Christians can only practice (cont)

I think, particularly after yesterday‘s elections, this BS is why the public is so ripshit and furious mad at the GOP. It’s not even just policy, they don’t like the ICE stuff, but what they absolutely HATE, is the rule by decree from the White House. They want elected representatives making laws.
Trump: "They're gonna make DC a state and they're gonna make Puerto Rico a state. So now they pick up two states, four senators. They're gonna pick up electoral votes. It's gonna be a very, very bad situation. Now, if we do what I'm saying, they'll most likely never obtain power."

Yeah I think the big secret to understanding politics is not overthinking it
These big wins will embolden Dems to take on Trump's lawbreaking and show there's a price for GOP enabling of him. Folks hate to hear this, but normal patterns are asserting themselves: Liberalism isn't dead, Rs are likely to lose in 2026, and Trump is really unpopular, not a magical exception.

Good. But it's time for canonical penalties for collaborationists. Vance is a Catholic. Homan is a Catholic. Rubio is a Catholic. Leavitt is a Catholic. They all have bishops and who have a responsibility they must exercise on pain of damnation if they shirk it. Or perhaps Leo has to do it himself.
BREAKING: After ICE refuses to allow detained migrants to receive the Eucharist, Pope Leo calls on Trump and Vance to respect migrants‘ dignity and religious liberty.
“They must allow ministers to assist with their needs. They've been separated from their families and no one knows what happens.”

At this point I think it is fair to assume that anyone under the age of 30 who is a staffer for a right-wing think tank or Republican member of Congress is groyper-adjacent unless explicitly proven otherwise.
the bleakest moment in this article is the point where a heritage staffer, horrified by fuentes, discovers that "a growing number" of heritage interns are groypers
My assumption is that the New York Post has better sources inside Heritage than most other press outlets. One tidbit of note: Princeton's Robert P. George, a Heritage trustee, is said to be pushing fellow board members to oust its president Kevin Roberts. Hope he succeeds.

the more untenable your worldview becomes and the more revolting it is to educated people in polite society, the more your think tanks are going to end up selecting for kids who *like* that it is revolting and transgressive and intolerable to polite society.
