My morning commute was ruined by having to listen to two people behind me exchanging ignorant transphobic comments. Horrific.

Ortega and Murillo are cornered. Let’s hope their days are numbered

Bad Bunny at the Grammys: "Before I say thanks to God, I want to say ICE out. We're not savage, we're not animals, we're not aliens, we are humans, and we are Americans."

Has the chancellor thought of looking at how other European countries do it? Austria is less wealthy than the UK, but everyone who wants to go to university can for free. You only pay for tuition fees if you exceed the degree duration by more than two semesters. The UK system is scandalous.
This is absolutely shocking. Something has to be done about this appalling situation in which so many now find themselves. The government needs to act

in Hungary do they have masked agents of the state gunning down civilians in the street? I feel like we need to dial up our authoritarian regime comparisons quite a bit from where they were a year ago

Sure that’s right as long as these people don’t ever need doctors, nurses, vets, teachers, or artists, or don’t ever read books, watch TV, go to museums, use bridges, takes planes or trains, or benefit from research into housing, inequality, relationships, flood management, climate change etc etc
Rachel Reeves: "It is not right that people who don't go to university bear the cost for others to." I don't use local leisure centres and I don't drive, so will I be made exempt for taxation that pays for all that stuff? Or is it only education we'll be going after

I totally disagree. I miss the days when my class sizes were a quarter of what they are now, I knew every single student’s name and understood their strengths and weaknesses, and I didn’t have to navigate layers of clunky ed tech and teaching bureaucracy.
Saw a reference to ‘the neo-liberal university and the commodification of knowledge’. Fair enough, but what did it replace? In 1980s, the faculty were only interested in the best students and acted as if every non-academic job was beneath contempt. Most students were tolerated rather than taught.

#Nicaragua | Si Ortega es un gobernante ausente, ahora sin poder de veto, Murillo es omnipresente, con su excéntrico e inconfundible atuendo, sus monólogos diarios a los medios de propaganda oficialista y su retórica altisonante👇

Academics’ enthusiastic (and often uncritical) embrace of LLMs and generative artificial intelligence will be a factor in the junkification of research.

You can’t outsource thinking nor the cognitive task of gradually absorbing knowledge. Nor discernment and creativity.
Looks like ICE is now cracking down on … Native Americans.

This letter was just posted by the chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North/South Dakota:

“Our Nation is a sovereign government and our members are not immigrants. We are not subject to immigration enforcement on our own lands.”

I‘m soooo excited about Corriedale

It is a terrible idea. How can any student think this is better than say reading a couple of readings from the syllabus?
"Stuck on an essay topic? Ask AI to suggest some initial ideas"

listen, i appreciate that people may differ but no, that's a bad idea. no.

This is also my life. Trying to implement daily German style lüften. I also had to persuade US spouse that we don’t leave the central heating on all night in the UK.
Apparently at some point I turned the heat off, too. Jail for 10,000 years for me.
Spouse: why is the bathroom window open in the middle of a rain storm?
Me: I just thought we needed some fresh air. The air is super nice and clean when it's raining!
Spouse: you spend too much time around Germans
