Working up a fever in a one-horse town.

Somerville garage-punk-pub-rock band on Rum Bar Records.

The music stuff is the band’s; the politics, bad posts, & academic crap-takes are mine.

It wasn’t considered serious enough for real reporters so they gave it to the society desk which was always women. there are so many of these and they just get dismissed for being in the non news section

The fact that the very first VU review ever in print is from a column called “Teen Talk” and the headline is “Blobs and Blurbs” is providing me with the delighted, peaceful feeling I require to walk into 2026 with.

I lived in the then-grimy East Village when this came out and I felt that this took place in my world. I love the mix of whimsy and property damage.

As we mourn Rob Reiner, don’t skip this: he was, pretty much, personally responsible for overturning California’s Prop 8 banning same sex marriage.

Honestly I think if Trump faced an opponent who made stuff up about him the way he makes shit up about his opponents it would be effective; after a 3 minute debate rant full of lies the other person just shrugged and said "what can you expect from this guy? he shits in the sink" and moved along.

The reason this Harvard history professor decided he was done with one of the best and most privileged jobs in the world was, in his own words, because he was forced to lecture in a mask during peak Covid.

I’m not making this up.

We've been talking about how if a bar lets in one Nazi it becomes a Nazi bar. If Nazis take over the running of the bar, it's definitely a Nazi bar. There's not even a debate to be had about that.

This is not hard. Artists are not responsible for ensuring the Kennedy Center remains relevant and successful. The center’s board is responsible for that, in a fiduciary way. All of this energy being directed at artists should be re-directed at the board.

Honestly didn't expect to close out 2025 by teaching *checks stats* approximately 1.6K people that Norman Rockwell made some pretty intense political art, but hey, what a way to end the year?

If I had a dollar for every time a border drawn and enforced by a colonial entity resulted in peace and stability or any kind of objective benefit for the inhabitants of the region, I wouldn't have a single dollar. Which isn't surprising but it's weird that we keep respecting the colonist's attempts

Hey,worked in creative & production 4 broadcast media & film 35 years; even produced handful of commercials during a dry spell.

Commercials are ‘premium retail’ of filmmaking. Budgets & schedules are inflated & crew/craft day rates the highest anywhere.

But $220M is exponentially over the top.
Seems like fraud, waste, and abuse to us

I have a lot of respect for the Knives Out movies just as an exercise in people making solid B+ level entertainment where everyone seems to be enjoying the experience without it needing it to win Oscar’s or make 3 billion dollars. It’s like going to a good steakhouse.
