Ryan's whole thread here is interesting ... but this Globe photo is '70s newspapers in a nutshell.
In their footage from that trip we glimpse a place called "I Did It" My Way Lounge which I had to learn more about. It was inside the Holiday Inn in Cambridge, MA and the next year there was a murder/robbery there.

Spun Purple Mountains earlier today, forever in awe of Berman’s turns of phrase. And also happened to think about Ryan and some of his Berman stories. If I were in New York this weekend, I would not miss this.

I watched the “One to One: John & Yoko" documentary. Really enjoyed it. Love the collage editing with no contemporary narration or interviews. No "what you have to understand is at that time..."-talking-head-cliches. Biggest surprise? Their June 1973 trip to Cambridge MA!

The fact that the very first VU review ever in print is from a column called “Teen Talk” and the headline is “Blobs and Blurbs” is providing me with the delighted, peaceful feeling I require to walk into 2026 with.

After spending an hour+ troubleshooting why the freezer wouldn't completely shut, we realized that wedging a book underneath the door was the only temporary solution we could figure out that was at all reliable. The fact that this was the book that was the perfect fit was not lost on us.

i got a bit obsessed with the modern lovers this year & attempted to assemble a complete-as-possible 1970-1974 live chronology. it's far from complete, but found lots of fun stuff, including a setlist for what might be the 1st gig & ads for their shows in bermuda. jessejarnow.com/2025/12/the-...

Just spotted a guy ripping a ciggie while shoveling snow. In New England this is considered very good luck.

How bedrock and vital are immigrants to the USA? Every Christmas, we literally tell our kids that an immortal Greek man from Turkey enters every home to leave them presents. Don't wanna go back that far? At best he's from the North Pole, def not a citizen. Merry Christmas. Abolish ICE.

Two of the most heartrending moments in recorded music, IMHO, are 1) when Darlene Love sings “if there was a way” and 2) when Judy Garland sings “we’ll have to muddle through somehow” and both are Christmas songs. In December you hear them both, often, without warning everywhere. That’s fucked.
