I've been a critic of NYT for two decades--sometimes as a job--but I don't have monolithic view. There are great reporters working there. Headline writers, not so much. This is actively misleading. By framing it as a question it takes a side, asserting that he wants to w/out plausible evidence.

$68 million is simply an 'operating cost' and tacit endorsement of the practice.

These fines should be cripplingly high to prevent further reoccurrence.
Do you remember when people were saying "I think my phone is listening to me, i'm getting ads for stuff I spoke about" and people said "They arent listening to you, they're just this good at predicting your interests"?

Well, it happens they were doing exactly that.

They married when she was 16.

The papers reported it like it was...any other celebrity wedding.

5 things you can eat til you explode:

* Risotto (surprising no-one who's followed me for any length of time)
* Honey roasted nuts
* Cheese
* Cocktail sausages
* Dauphinoise potatoes

Tricky narrowing the list down, and tomorrow's five could be entirely different. Apart from cheese.

Ann Lovett’s story was in many ways the story of a generation of young women. We all knew girls like Ann, who had concealed their pregnancies or been sent away mysteriously. And many brave girls who were single mothers against all the odds.

#NeverForget
The unforgettable story of Ann Lovett. Never forget the cold country Ireland once was for women. A lesson for other countries - including in the US where women’s rights and dignity are undermined like never before 💔💔💔
Ann Rose Lovett, a 15-year-old schoolgirl from Granard, County Longford died giving birth beside a grotto on 31 January 1984. Her baby son died at the same time and the story of her death played a huge part in a seminal national debate on women giving birth outside marriage. 1/3
