Ok, Ireland is not full but my starter packs 1 & 2 are!

So here's a third and *final* one from me (felt too guilty ignoring people asking to be added! This one is not full... yet).

Tús maith, leath na hoibre!

What a special moment this was for @sanctuaryrunner.bsky.social Over a hundred sanctuary runners gathered to wish President Higgins and Sabina a fond farewell. We were so honoured to have him as a patron.

Michael D Higgins, with his wife Sabina, has left Áras an Úachtaráin for the final time as president.

He was given a guard of honour by members of the Sanctuary Runners, a charity of which he is patron.

The President’s term of office ends at midnight.

My daughter telling her NZ friends that she’s proud of her sallow skin… to their surprise and confusion 😂
My favourite Hiberno-English-ism isn't any of the obvious ones, it's the fact that when we say "sallow" we mean the opposite of what everyone else means. It's not sickly yellow, it's healthy, positive

Anyway, I'm bringing this up, because this quasi-religious myth of growth continuing — no matter how hot and chaotic the planet gets — underlies most of the bullshit in the Gates memo, making it hard to recognize as bullshit.

Today feels like a good day to remind everyone that there is literally no empirical evidence that economic growth will just continue if the world heats up to, say, 3°C by 2100.

Continued growth is just *assumed* in every economic model of the relationship between temperatures and growth.

But, I don't know, people: if you're going to justify an economic system that could ruin the planet for humanity effectively forever, I think you need more than unfounded belief that its benefits will continue to accrue, no?

Who are these people telling us it's 'pro-rural' to be in favour of being allowed to keep on turning our rivers and lakes into stinking, dying, open sewers for private profit?

Oh, just a Fianna Fáil MEP.

The new UNEP Emissions Gap Report points out that "no NDCs set targets to reduce oil and gas production or trim inefficient fossil fuel subsidies".

That countries are not addressing fossil fuels - at the heart of the climate crisis - is deeply worrying.

I have to imagine far-right Catholics are really struggling with the fact that they can now hear this stuff in English directly from the pope.
“How did you receive the foreigner? And did you receive him and welcome him or not?”

Pope Leo XIV challenges us to reflect on the moral cost of policies that target deeply-root immigrants and families.

Ireland has a long history of copying British policies after they have failed in Britain, and then doing the shocked Pikachu face when they fail here too

I'd honestly rather not see how this one works out for us

This week we learn that the US climate delegation is going around threatening to put European climate negotiators on the US sanctions list if they don't agree to wreck our climate.

The USDA is the fail safe for SNAP.

They have a contingency fund to ensure it’s covered in the event of a shutdown.

They’re refusing.

Grocery stores stepped up to try and help by offering discounts to any SNAP recipients and the USDA told them they had to stop.

Early this morning, our city still plunged into darkness, I set off to walk the Brooklyn Bridge.

As the sun came up, we were joined by canvassers, labor leaders, elected officials, and working people — a movement to bring a new day to our city.

Tomorrow, we win it together.
