Ok, Ireland is not full but my starter packs 1 & 2 are!

So here's a third and *final* one from me (felt too guilty ignoring people asking to be added! This one is not full... yet).

Tús maith, leath na hoibre!

What a cruel policy.
not the main point I guess but holy hell, Denmark, wtf
The Sun has been told Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood will on Monday propose confiscating jewellery, watches, necklaces from asylum seekers to meet asylum costs

This reflects the most controversial aspect of the Danish scheme - the Jewellery Law. The toughest Labour MPs thought this was OTT

Labour’s latest attack on asylum seekers is cruel & counterproductive. How does it help community cohesion to hold threat of deportation over vulnerable people? We don’t need an arms race with the hard right over asylum, we need safe routes & European cooperation #bbclaurak

This is why I believe that what we do at @sanctuaryrunner.bsky.social is so important. We are telling a different story, showing the joy of people coming together in their communities to simply run, jog, walk, drink tea, chat.

Despite all we know, global carbon emissions continue to rise. How is it possible that we're *still* accelerating towards climate and ecological collapse?

Global fossil fuel emissions are set to hit a new high in 2025, according to research that also warns curbing warming under 1.5C would now be essentially "impossible".

Again if you find yourself wondering about things like Judicial review because politicians and some right wing journos say this is the reason we can’t get things done, just remember this is complete bollix and the real reason is lobbyists, lobbyists, lobbyists and politicians who become lobbyists.

All Airbnbs being rented year round are in contravention of planning laws. Houses built for private residential tenancy need to apply for change of use. If you built a house without following the rules it could be torn down. We could solve this Airbnb problem overnight, there’s no political will.

I don’t know if this is accurate but I choose to believe it.

PLEASE don’t tell me it’s wrong.
Friendly reminder that dishwashers made after 1995 or so are so water and energy efficient that even if you ran them twice fully loaded it would still use less water than handwashing the same load.

So many "green" things feel like sacrifices. Dishwashers are not one of them.

My favourite Hiberno-English-ism isn't any of the obvious ones, it's the fact that when we say "sallow" we mean the opposite of what everyone else means. It's not sickly yellow, it's healthy, positive

Anyway, I'm bringing this up, because this quasi-religious myth of growth continuing — no matter how hot and chaotic the planet gets — underlies most of the bullshit in the Gates memo, making it hard to recognize as bullshit.

Today feels like a good day to remind everyone that there is literally no empirical evidence that economic growth will just continue if the world heats up to, say, 3°C by 2100.

Continued growth is just *assumed* in every economic model of the relationship between temperatures and growth.

But, I don't know, people: if you're going to justify an economic system that could ruin the planet for humanity effectively forever, I think you need more than unfounded belief that its benefits will continue to accrue, no?
