"Regulatory and bankability challenges also threaten projects and, according to Reynolds, are already delaying the gas and LNG development plans across the two countries. "

Bankability.

There is it.

Solar plus storage is much cheaper.
Gas Turbine Shortage in Vietnam and the Philippines
Project delays, exacerbated by global gas turbine shortages, give clear market signals to prioritise renewables and battery storage.

What @txsharon.bsky.social says

“We have to stop burning things. We just don’t need to burn things for energy anymore.”
"I do feel like what we’re doing now, what Oilfield Witness is doing, is making a difference.” Still, for Wilson, the ultimate goal isn’t tighter methane rules—it’s an end to the age of combustion itself. “We have to stop burning things. We just don’t need to burn things for energy anymore.”
This Former Oil Worker Is Now Exposing Its Dirty Methane Emissions | Atmos
After fracking fouled her air and water, Sharon Wilson devoted her life to documenting the emissions fueling the climate crisis.

"Really signalled that US liquefaction had capacity to burn."

Reminder. This is right before North America doubles its liquefaction capacity over the next 5 years.

Normally if you have capacity to burn you wouldn't add more. Because what you will then be burning is your money.

Oops.
The orange line is quite clearly wot-dun-it, but actually the thing that probably took the market by a small bit of surprise was the increase over the summer months this year rather than the peaky winter supply we're seeing now.

Really signalled that US liquefaction had capacity to burn.

The transition to clean energy is about economics.
Wood Mackenzie confirms new natural gas generation is expensive!

$126/MWh in 2030!

New solar plus batteries are less than half the cost of new gas!

New nuclear ($139/MWh) also is getting close to being cheaper than new gas!

Gas too is dirty, biggest CO2 electricity polluter. #energysky

The consensus is that the electrification of transportation will destroy 5 million barrels per day of oil demand by 2030.

In this new piece I argue that this number is too low for a bunch of reasons.
Gluttons For Punishment: Oil Industry Doubles Down Against Reality
The world is facing a multi-year oil glut where the oil producers will be pumping more oil out of the ground than the world is using. This will keep oil prices at low levels – likely well below the le...

Trump and the Republicans want those who can't afford to eat to go hungry so badly that they are stopping anyone who tries to help.

Attempting to be the worst in history.

What Iranians knew for thousands of years but Americans never knew but will be learning the hard way in the coming decades.
"For 1000s of years, Iranians understood the balance: Never draw more from an aquifer than nature could replenish.
That wisdom, once central to survival, has been buried under decades of short-term thinking & political negligence."

[Ireland's agri-ruled politics is water negligence too. #nitrates]
the Iranian drought story is insanely undercovered.

It looks like I am part of a larger trend--10 times more scientists running for public office in 2026 compared to past mid-term elections. Maybe all the attacks on science are the cause😜.

It's not just the AI sociopaths pushing the idea that we need data centers. The oil and gas industry desperately wants us to believe we need them and must power them with gas.

This Mayor gets it.

"Mayor Stefan Roots, City Of Chester, had a simple message for the Committee-- “LNG is simply not welcome here."
I'm introducing a new initiative...It's WMO, We've Moved On."

LNG? No thanks, WMO.

🙂
In October, EV sales rose 48% y-o-y in Germany and 63% in France. Also a great month for EVs in the UK, Ireland, Portugal and many others.

This is *why* manufacturers are saying the EU needs to dial back on its ambitions. It's not that EVs are not selling - it's fear that they're selling too well.

"It has become painfully clear to me that despite the regulations intended to protect our environment, they do nothing without enforcement. This situation threatens our environment and jeopardizes the health and safety of our communities — particularly those of us living near oil and gas operations"
When not out in the oilfields documenting emissions & spills, Charlie is writing about it. His latest. Notice this important point he makes:

"Simply by reporting they violated the law, operators are considered to be compliant with the law and suffer little to no consequences for violations."
New Mexico deserves stronger environmental protections
