I revisited Gran’s house recently and was shocked at all the new warehouses.

That block in the middle is really tall. In their place in Gran’s day large banks of earth, covered with mature trees, hid small buildings.

Oh and one of the buildings is refrigerated storage so there’s a constant hum.

A turnip lantern with angry triangle eyes sitting beside a parsnip lantern, that I hope might look a little ghostly. There’s a tea light candle burning in each, making the hollowed out vegetables glow. Their eyes are the brightest part of an otherwise very dark image, because they’re sitting on the door step. BTW, the turnip is a large purple skinned, orange fleshed root vegetable that I think English folk call a swede. So apologies for any confusion. A small, oval pumpkin is sitting on a wooden bench in front of a yellow wall. Someone has, very amateurishly, drawn eyebrows, eyes and a fanged mouth on the pumpkin using black marker pen.

Apart from admiring its fractal beauty, what would you do with a veg bag romanesco broccoli?

It needs to be something miraculous, for one person in this household is Not A Fan of vegetables.

Tempted as I was, I didn’t buy it.

10/10, will cook again.
A white pasta bowl filled with thick, white udon noodles and brown minced lamb and veg on top. There’s a lime wedge at lower right, and a handful of cucumber and radish at the top right. The whole dish has a poncy cheffy sprinkling of chopped chives over it. I wish you all could smell this photo.

I hope you liked living under our shed & feasting on the cat food. I’ll miss you sunbathing when I’m in the garden, & that wee “peep” noise you made.

The great clear out continues at #ShezzaMumsHouse today. Mum's finally admitted that she won't be doing anything with the doll house I bought her decades ago

Her and Dad were going to work on it, but life and health got in the way.

Still, it's a cracking wee house, and someone will love it.

On #TombTuesday I’m revisiting Creggandevesky Court Tomb, which we were at a couple of weeks ago.

It’s in a cracking location, overlooking Lough Mallon, and we were lucky to visit on a day there was no livestock in the field.

It took some finding, but it’s a fantastic site.
The front of Creggandevesky Court Tomb: a central entrance made up of huge stones and an equally huge capstone, with stone walls curving out from the entrance to create the entrance court that gives this type of tomb its name. The stones are well-mottled with an excellent mix of cream and yellow lichens. The grass in from hasn’t been mown in a while, and is full of yellow wildflowers. A regimented row of dark green conifers rises up behind the tomb. The sky is a cloudy grey, with very little hint of the imminent downpour that drenched us through to our knickers just as we headed back to the car. Creggandevesky, Co. Tyrone, July 2025 Looking along the right hand side of the tomb. We can see the chunky entrance with its capstone peak to the left. A wide, low stone walls curving stretches from the middle front of our view. The dark green conifers are a thin line on the opposite side of the green wire fence that keeps the livestock away from the tomb. The clouds are heavy and dark grey, but the lighter sky in the distance would fool you into thinking the weather was ok that day. A rear view of the tomb, showing the central aisle, and the corners of the rear wall. The tomb was so overgrown with brambles, heathers and foxgloves that it was hard to get a good view of the chambers off the aisle. I hope they’re not left to grow too much bigger, because I’d worry their roots might cause damage. The sky in front of the tomb is bright, with big, sunlit fluffy clouds. It looks like a delightful day to be tramping around in The Sperrins.

Fuming all over again that the easiest way to get a refund from Tesco for bad items in my grocery delivery is to DM them on Twitter.

I could do it via email, but that takes ages; and phoning means I'm stuck waiting on them. DMs let me message then go do stuff until they reply.

For #StandingStoneSunday have this photo taken a few days ago of my favourite stone from the Beaghmore Complex in Co. Tyrone.

There are 7 circles, 10 stone rows, and 12 cairns. It’s hard to convey how complex this Complex actually is, so you’ll just have to go and see it for yourself
Looking over the top of some dark green whin bushes towards some of the taller stones in an alignment complex. Most of the stones that make up the circles here are around knee high, but the two in middle frame are about four foot tall. The stone in the centre of the frame has a pointed top, a pointed right hand side and a craggy surface. Every time I visit, it reminds me of a floppy eared dog in profile. It might be my favourite stone on this awesome site. Behind the stones there’s a patchy Irish hedge of what might be blackthorn or hawthorn trees, both excellent trees to have in an important site. All this sits below a bright blue sky, filled with enough big white and pale grey clouds to make the day feel overcast. I still got sunburnt though.

Well that was just lovely. A glamping trip to The Sperrin mountains, with stone circles, court tombs, mountain scenery, BBQ, hot tub, fires, and the poshest little cabin you ever did see.

Hello BlueSky! I’m home.
An A-frame cabin with an offset door and a couple of windows in the end wooden wall . There’s a stone pathway around it, a picnic bench, a bbq and a lovely clear evening sky. You can see a couple more cabins in the background. There’s a wooden post in the foreground that is part of the steps up to the hot tub. A very close up on a prehistoric standing stone. Its width fills the bottom third of the view and it comes to a slightly rounded point. In the background the rest of the circle curves away, mostly made of similar, smaller stones. The tops of the mountains can be seen on the horizon, beneath a classic Northern Irish bright grey summer sky. Believe it or not, I got a little bit of sunburn on that day. A glowing, golden sunset seen across a broad mountain valley. The sky is very clear at the top , with a pale hint of blue colour that it held onto well after midnight. The sun is to the left, with a long narrow blue grey wisp of cloud stretched in front of it. The cloud doesn’t stop the sunset turning the bottom layer of the sky a clear, bright amber. The far side of the valley is dark, but the tall grasses nearest to the camera are golden lit. A triangular, black metal fire pit burns merrily in the nighttime. It’s after half eleven at night and the sky is a bright Mediterranean blue, still with golden sunlight showing along the horizon. The light from the fire shows the gravel surface in front of it, and hedge behind is in darkness.

I thought I’d chop the melon up so we could have it for breakfast the next few days, but when I lifted it something felt wrong. And it glugged.

A closer look showed a hand sized blister on one side of the melon, with liquid visibly moving inside. The other side of the melon looked and felt normal.
Top down view into a light blue compost caddy, lined with a pale green compostable liner. A honeydew melon nearly fills the caddy, the side facing the camera has collapsed in on itself like a torn tarpaulin. The seeds, and an unacceptable amount of liquid can be seen glistening inside the melon.
